Members bish
So I received an EH Soul Preacher Nano today as a gift for my birthday, and when I tried it out, I noticed that turning the volume knob anywhere past 9 o'clock (actually more like 8 o'clock) causes a tremendous amount of hiss. It goes from silent to snakes on a plane very quickly. This is my first compressor so I don't know a ton about them but I've done a bit of research so I know there is a certain amount of acceptable noise, but this is just really loud and overpowering. I definitely didn't hear that noise in the EH video on their site although videos can be edited and cleaned up, but he had it turned up to 12 o'clock and I can't even stand being in the room with the pedal I recieved at that setting. I've seen so many reviews say how quiet the Soul Preacher is, compared to other at that price range, so I'm just wondering if perhaps I got a bad pedal or am I just not understanding how much hiss a compression pedal should have heh. Thanks in advance, -bish

Members bish
Thanks, yeah I tried both with just the battery and then with an adapter and it's the same hiss. One thing I did just realize though is that with my amp volume at 12 o'clock the pedal volume is at unity gain right at the hiss starting point about 8 o'clock. Not sure if that means anything heh but thought I should mention it.
Members TweedBassman
are you running any other pedals before it? a comp will bring up the noise of anything before it in the chain.... noise you may not even notice without the comp. if not, you may have a bogus unit. no experience with the sould preacher though. Members IRG
I had one, found it noisier than I liked too, and traded it. But it's a decent compressor otherwise. I had a Guyatone ST-2, traded that as well, and it was quieter. Not as effective as the Soul Preacher, but quieter and pretty good. I have no compressor now, and don't miss it. Members bish
Cool thanks for the replies, I ran it all alone so it's definitely the pedal. I think I'll send it exchange it and see if maybe I got a bad pedal, and if not I can always return the replacement. Thanks all, -bish
