I dont know what happened with the dude that had problems... What Version was it? Mine sounds absolutely fantastic... will post clips later...

it was the newest version and it sounded tiny and sustainless with my amp. what year is yours? It also was very muddy when you kicked the gain up. but hell, as long as you like it thats what counts. everyone has their own tastes. post the clips and then I could tell you if thats what it sounded like with mine.

I don't know how you like the 808+ but if you're looking for a good pedal to stack with the OCD the crunchbox v.2 does a very nice job.

and im sorry it didnt work for you man... I would like a silverface, but honestly mine is already too loud for what i need so more volume isnt really best... lol... all the clubs get so mad cause i want to play it loud and they want to control it through the pa... i dont like having someone else have complete control of my sound, you know? and we play some pretty big places! lol...

how so? what is the difference?

Well, I find the Timmy to be lower gain, less gritty, and with an AWESOME control over EQ. It is very transparent.

I found that the OCD (I had a V.1 so ymmv) to be grittier but it cleaned up REALLY WELL with the volume knob, but so does the Timmy (probably better).

I guess in terms of gain, I would say that the Timmy is more in the range of the OCD set on the low-gain setting (which is what I primarily used it for).

I took my boards apart and tried my pedals individually and in different combinations and found that I just didn't like my OCD as much, so I sold it.

Thanks SOH. I have the OCD v3 and 4. I love the v3 and it's staying. The v4 isn't, so I'm exploring alternatives. I'm not sure what I want. I may be looking at an Xotic RC boost(?). I just want some middle ground alternate between an unaffected signal and the v3. The clips I've heard from the Tim sound great but I don't see much online info about it, nor a website from the builder.

ya for sure. The two amps are the same volume though. I had a reissue before this silverface.

I have a v.4 on the way...what's the diff? I use a KT-45, by the way, so I am interested in your opinion.

I posted a thread at TGP (that got little attention, LOL), so if you don't mind, I'll just copy that info onto here. Bottom line was that the v4 sounded much thinner and not as meaty as the v3 running it through the KT-45 side of my 6545.

-------------------------------------------

Disclaimer: Ok guys, take my opinion with a grain of salt. I don't profess to have expert, all-knowning ears and I've only had about 15 minutes of test driving. By no means do I consider myself a qualified tone expert and my ears have endured 30 years of loud amp abuse.

Guitar used: Tom Anderson Droptop

The pickups in the "A" are Tom's: SA2R (neck single coil), SA2 (middle single coil), H2+ (humbucker in the bridge ).

Amp: Dr.Z 6545. Pedals were tested on the KT-45 side with the bass and treble knobs set at noon. The volume was on about 10:00 o'clock. This weekend I'll test it with the Dr Z Delta 88.

The pedal settings were identical except for the volume knob. The v1.4's pot is much more friendly. I could put it on almost noon vs. 09:30 on the v3. The tone knobs were on about 01:00, as were the gain knobs.

v3: Much more focused and compressed with stronger mids and bass. It almost sounded more "woofy" when compared to the v1.4. I don't mean "woofy" in a bad way because I've always loved the v3 as is. I think the pick attack response is a little better on this one than the v1.4.

v1.4: much more high/top-ended tone but it sounded a little thinner than the v3. You can definitely hear the absence of the compression found in v3. Perhaps the harmonics are little better on this one but it could be the increased top end I'm hearing. It still sounds good if you had never heard the v3 in comparison but I'm going to have to do some more tweaking to see what all it will do.

----------------------------------------

I've since had another hour with the v4 and have decided that it's not a good fit with my rig.

Thanks...I run my OD's into the Keeley Comp, perhaps that will address the issues you raise.

The v4 might be a better fit with your rig. It was just disappointing for me when compared to the v3. For your rig, I'd suggest backing off of the amps and pedals treble quite a bit but I don't know what guitar you'll be using. I still may keep the v4 if I can tweak a suitable light, crunchy boost out of it. I just hate to having to rid the v4 in search of another pedal.
