Members kodax
Does anybody knows which effects is used to get that hollow sound on the solo in "No one knows" by Queens of the Stone Age?
Members Brujo13
i know he uses hot rails in his guitar, i used to have hot rails in one of my guitars mostly a lot of mids and bass with the the treble turned down a bit to give it that "draggin my feet thru mud" feel
Members pepperduck
Try a smooth overdrive and turning the tone knob down on your guitar till it sounds about right. As you may know Josh Homme is VERY secretive about his gear and recording techniques so you are just gonna have to try and figure it out on your own which is the funnest part. Also, you just might stumble on your own unique sound while on your quest for finding Homme's solo tone:cop:

Members mrweems
I read in multiple magazines that he used a Zvex SHO on that album. Then again he also has a huge arsenal semi and full hollowbody guitars.
Members FuzzShifter
Boss Over Drive, MXR Phase 90, AnalogMan Chorus, DOD Octave divider, Tycobrahe Parapedal wah, Ibanez flanger, Boss delay, Jim Dunlop Rotovibe, Jim Dunlop Univibe I realize this is Tony Iommi's board, but I tend to think Josh Homme goes for those kind of sounds. Members melx
It's also a lot cleaner than you imagine, I think his sound is mainly got from just EQing a certain way.

Members kodax
After trying around a bit, I think I get an ok sound turning- tone all down- Foxrox Zim on a little drive with Depth on full cut and Voice on 3 -Foxrox Octron on full down, some plain, and a little upGuess not exactely as on the record, but who cares as long as it sound good. BTW. After watching a lot of videos on the tube, I'm not sure if Josh is playing the solo on the record at all. He's definately not close on any of the liveshows where he plays a solo on this song... Members decode6
I can hit his old stuff dead on. But of course, I have a VT-22 and a Strat w/ a Super 2 in it. The guitar he used to record that was his Ovation which has a Super 2. I'm not certain what is loaded in his Maton.
Members Bob Doom
Well, supposedly, he used Seymour Duncan Custom Custom's now. I have one in one of my C-tuned guitars and it sounds pretty accurate. I've found the best way to get old Homme tones was with a mini toggle set to parallel and the tone rolled down. I don't know why, but it retains a lot of clarity while still giving that tone-cut sound. I wish I could find the super 2's when I was looking for new pickups. The Super Distortion gets me really close, but I'll always wonder if I could have been dead-on with a Super 2.... Oh well...

Members TheGareth
I'm pretty sure it's just a very loud amp with loads of mids and bass and very little treble. It doesn't sound that distorted to me.....
Members lukin
Not to sure about the solo on "No one knows" but I have been listening to their latest album alot lately. I think the sound is kind of similar to when I have the mids cranked on my amp at low-medium gain settings. I don't even use an OD pedal. It helps if your amp's eq is very responsive and you have a fairly beefy guitar I'm sure his sound is more specific, he has alot of guitars but it is similar enough without trying to purchase all the same gear he has. I think often people don't pay enough attention to the EQ on their amps, it is quite amazing how different the sound changes tweaking the mids on my amp.
