Calling Fatback Ribs, I need your input brother! Keeler Push inquiry

Hey I saw your awesome video of this great sounding pedal. Would you buy it for your only dirt pedal. I just sold off a Fulldrive II and a Vox Valvetone (tube screamer clone), so my only dirt is from my C30 Speedtwin which is somewhat in the marshall/brit flavor.

I noticed during part of the demo, it may have been the someone else's video the Keeler was slaming a tube based OD.

Anyway, what were your impressions of the pedal? Is $250 best spent on that pedal or another or a combination of others. Any feedback from you would be appreciated. If you have played the Blackstone Appliance pedal, how would you compare the two boxes?

Your playing and the loops you laid down and played over were great.

Has anyone else played this pedal?

Play the videos in this link for an awesome dirt box demo.

I agree that Fatbacks vids are awesome. If you don't mind me piping in, I have become a bit of a Keeler addict.

First, I got the 'purple' push pedal. It has become my main distortion pedal. I find the push is voiced to enhance the mids...but not in a harsh way. It's just an awesome sound to my ears.

This got me interested in the pull pedal, which has become my main light OD pedal. Clear and fat and compliments the push very well.

After realizing how much I've come to utilize the push pedal, I thought I should get a backup since I use it on 80% of the songs we do (it is my main distortion pedal). I had the chance to pick up the Keeler custom shop Push pedal which sounds very much like the purple push pedal but I would also say it is not quite as aggressive as the purple push...it is painted just like the pull pedal...blue.

anyways, thats my keeler story. There is still a spot on my board for when the 'shove' pedal comes out. Hope this gives some insight.

When push comes to shove, I want both. Do you stack the push with anything? How much amp dirt do you use? Have you played the Blackstone version 2 or 3? Thanks by the way for your feedback. What other dirt pedals would you compare the Keeler Push with?

I can understand that because you are a man with more than just a few dirt boxes. I just sold off two quality boxes so all I have is three channels of amp dirt between my two amps. One of those realy doesn't sound so good.

The pull video had great tones as well. It seems like the add was right when it stated that it added a depth almost 3D stereo like effect. It sounds like I pedal I would leave on most of the time.

In general, I find that the push sounds best by itself (no stacking), although kicking in the pull with the push (this is starting to sound like Abbott & Costello) will tend to brighten the push, making it more 'cutting'. I run my pedals clean into my amp with no amp dirt. I find I can set things easier that way from the pedalboard as far as levels and EQ go.

I've never tried the blackstone pedals, sorry man.

Comparisons to the Push? Tough, but I might say something of a cross between a Catalinbread SCOD & a Rat. Spongy yet rough. Ahhh, the joys of describing sounds...

I can see leaving the pull on all the time. Although I find that the pull actually has quite a bit of OD past noon on the 'texture' knob. That being said, it cleans up great by knocking down your guitar volume about 3 'knob notches' (i.e. guitar volume knob drop from a setting of '10' to a setting around '7').

Another thing I found similar about all three pedals (pull, push, push custom), is the importance of the treble/tone knob. There are multiple sweet spots, but there is one, major sweetspot where you just dial in the treble enough to help the distortion through, but there is still alot of body to the tone...this is where I leave these pedals (the tone/treble knobs are all set around or just past 3 oclock)...however, switching from a les paul to a telecaster would result in adjusting the tone/treble down a bit. I play both guitars and the pedals adapt well to each instrument.

Hey Scott!

Couldn't help but comment on these pedals.

I know, man. I find that if I plug one in to just check something out, I end up playing for a half hour (that I don't have to waste lately). That is often the sign of a stellar pedal IMHO. Makes you forget about time. :)
