Members nick911sc
Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a phaser but I'm stuck at a crossroad and I'm hoping some of you can help me. I've been looking at some different phaser and I can't decide whether or not a 2 stage or 4 stage is what I'm looking for. I love the floyd'ish sound that can be achieved with a 2 stage (Tone Factor Nebula) but I'm afraid it won't be able to achieve the Van Halen-esque phase I'm also looking for when gain is added into the mix. So maybe someone could give me some insight if the nebula would not cut it at all for what I'm looking for. But...Its a shame because after doing a lot of research I love the floyd sounds coming from this pedal. Just not sure if it will cut it for anything else I'm looking for. Members parkerguy
Haven't heard the Nebula myslef.. but if you want a VH sound you need a Phase 90.. dont' get the RI's they dont' sound anything like the originals.. the eddy van halen one is great. I bought one so i could take my original phase 90 off the road so to speak.. hard to tell the difference..
Members nick911sc
I'd really like to know if the Nebula can do the VH type phase as well as the gilmour
Members Loobster
The Nebula definitely doesn't nail that Van Halen style phase, it's not that thick, but it does get a really nice, watery, rotary speaker sounding phase. I love mine. Very...musical.

Members nick911sc
hey loobster I'm not looking to totally nail it. But if I can fake it with the pedal I'd be happy enough because it sounds awesome otherwise.
Members gambit
i don't think any of the 2 stagers will get you the sound you're after. i've had a Nebula and a dod 201, and neither are phase 90 territory. if you can find a DOD 201 on ebay for $30 and a second hand phase 90 you would be laughing though
Members nick911sc
would a 4 stage get me as good of a gilmour'ish sound though compared to the 2 stage?

Members archofmusic
I've gone through (3) Phasers. (2) Phase 90's (script and '74 re-issue), and (1) Russian Small Stone. I've returned them all. The Swooshing of the Phase 90's sounds terrible with my Big Muff before it, and the Small Stone had a 3-5db volume drop (really bad). I've personally decided to go with the HBE Psilocybe. I think it's priced really well for a boutique pedal ($160.00), and it sounds really good and has a large variety of sounds in the demo vids I've seen. It sounds more like the Small Stone than the Phase 90 which sounds much better with Distortion or Fuzz running through it.
