(caps to get your attention :p)

Quick question, Phase 90 or (nano) Small Stone?

Both are about $80 and readily available at my LMS (tom lee's).

I could go with right now (not sure :p) , and I'd love to hear your opinions :).

Thx in advance :thu:.

(sorry for duplicate, 'twas an accident ;))

Phase90 is much more pronounced, awesome pre-dirt and dare I say a lot more classic and organic, I used to own one, I have a nano SS on my board now and it's great, I like it much better before dirt than after, and it's quite versatile and capable of ringmod-like tones and crazy slow sounds.

Okay, but which one are you reccomending?

Sorry, I'm just stuck in the middle right now :p.

I have both and frankly, I kinda think you need both. Both are classic sounds and are different. I have a Retrosonic phaser which is a fancy phase 90 basically. The Nano Stone is excellent, a little volume drop, but is easy to get some of those classic Radiohead and Pumpkins phase sounds. The Phase 90 is different. Deeper and swirlier. The retrosonic is one my board because it has the depth knob for added versatility but I can't bring myself to sell the Stone. It just kinda works.

Well I'm not in the situation where I can get 2 phasers :p, not enough room on my board as it is :cop:.

If you had to get ONE, which one would it be?

thx, StEeLDrEdGeR/, DiMeTiMe or Shawn ;).

(BTW, I know it's a hard question)

great video. i had a small stone and didn't like the button, the click was too loud. i have never tried the phase 90. based on your video i choose both. the small stone sounds great on some settings, but the phase90 beats it on others. imho.

I hate to be the one suggesting this.... but get the Behringer Vintage phaser, it sounds the exact freaking same as the nano small stone except its less than 30 bucks and doesn't have that button that makes that crazy loud click mentioned above. I have both and honestly not hearing a difference at all. Tried both through a variety of Fender tube amps.

I have the Nano and it's pretty good. I don't hear a volume drop and no click from the switch either. One thing I will mention, is it depends on how you want to use your phaser. I tried it out front, before and after my dirt pedals, and it did not work. Sounded very poor. Not like weird, or different, but just plain bad. It went back in the effects loop, and it's much better there. Whereas with the MXR, I've heard (do not own one) that it can be used easier or more effectively with dirt pedals, ala Van Halen, so that might be important for you. I think the SS is more of Gilmour sound, MXR more VH.

It does a good job of copying the small stone sound but that's where the good news ends. The switch and knob feel like some of the cheapest stuff I've ever touched. Lots of noise bleeding thru when not playing, either. Spend the extra money for the real thing.
