Members CaptHowdy
Hi, I need a pedal to get just a little crunch on a clean amp. I have been suggested the Xotic AC and RC Booster, Z Vex Box of Rock and SHO and a BJF Honey Bee. What do you think? It has to work with humbuckers, so all 808 are out of the question. Thanks! Members Vince
What amp are you using it with? I love my AC booster for adding a little light dirt to my sound, but then I use a Hayseed 15 and a telecaster. It doesn't sound as good with my Les Paul though, but that could be the amp. I have a Marshall 1974x and a Fender Twin Blackface RI 65.
Members Vince
I think it would sound great through either of them!
Members NoirAbattoir
I would use the RC booster on the marshall, and the AC on the fender. The marshall just needs to be pushed a bit, and you won't want to fake up the tonez. The Fender will need a little help from some decent sounding gain from the pedal. Just my opinion, of course. Members AaronF
The AC and RC boosters are two different beasts, meant for two different things. I wouldn't say use one with this or one with that. My buddy uses the RC boost and never turns it off, in fact, the switch is broken, so even if he one day decided he wanted to turn it off, he couldn't. It just sounds so great, just adds that little bit of everything nice to your tone. The way he uses it it is almost more like an EQ, doesn't really add much dirt or anything. Then he uses the AC booster (the switch works on that one!) to go between clean and dirty, and a BD-2 set to a very clean setting, to boost volume into leads. All in all, it sounds really good.
