Members bluehuricane Posted April 13, 2008 Members Posted April 13, 2008 my friend has a computer recording set up, all digidesign and protools and what not. and i just got a lexicon omega in a craigslist trade, i was wondering if the lexicon, my windows vista computer, and pro tools (latest version) are all compatible with eachother? thanks
Phil O'Keefe Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Nope - sorry. Digidesign and M-Audio hardware are the only interfaces that are compatible with Pro Tools software. As far as MS Vista, it sux IMO. I know of no one with half a brain that's running a DAW on it... XP is far more hassle-free. IIRC, PT LE does run on 32 bit Vista versions (or at least a couple of them - what is there - about 20 different versions of that OS? ), but PT HD currently does not. That's fine by me.
Members voodoochild89 Posted April 13, 2008 Members Posted April 13, 2008 Nah. Pro-Tools does a bunch of sucky proprietary hardware stuff, which gets kind of annoying.
Phil O'Keefe Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Yeah, the fact that you HAVE to use their hardware can definitely be an annoyance. OTOH, you can be certain that as long as your computer coplies with their hardware compatibility guidelines, everything will function correctly together. Trust me - that's not always the case when you get your hardware and software from different companies... I own / use several DAW programs, but I do 95% of all of my work in PT HD. It just "works" for me for the way I like to work and the type of stuff (much more audio-centric than MIDI-centric) I usually do. YMMV.
Members bluehuricane Posted April 14, 2008 Author Members Posted April 14, 2008 yea i hate vista. my computer crashed so i'm using my sisters until i get a laptop which will definitely have xp instead of vista. what software would you reccommend instead of pro tools? i have the demo of cubase but haven't spent a lot of time with it and have been told that the demo version is virtually unuseable. i've used audacity and liked it but felt it was too bare bones. thanks phil and voodoo
Members thatmullingskid Posted April 14, 2008 Members Posted April 14, 2008 I've been liking cakewalk sonar a lot... but for something really cheap and surprisingly great there's reaper... definitely worth a shot if you're up for it
Members bluehuricane Posted April 14, 2008 Author Members Posted April 14, 2008 the guy at my music store suggested sonar, i think i'll look into that. is there a demo or anything for reaper?
