I haven't listened to it that much actually. Haven't had the time with all the new music released all the time. Is it similar to Magic Potion? Or is it more like the older albums?

honestly, its like nothing they have ever created before. It takes a while to get used to. I love it though. Its def. not as garagey per say. They use alot of different instrumentation on this album...still has that badass fuzz tone though. "Strange Times" is an awesome track.

They pretty much had to do something different this time. Magic Potion was really as good as the 'stripped down, recorded in a basement' thing was going to get. That's a great album.

Attack and Release is pretty good. I dont like how Dan's vocals were recorded, but thats a not too big of a deal. I really like the last song- the one with the chick singing backing vocals. Thats a nice one.

Magic Potion and Chulahoma are still my favorites.

That's hard to say. A lot's the same. It still has the Black Keys gritty, grimy blues, but it's not as minimalistic as the previous albums. They have a lot more instruments playing, and it's a lot more filled out. Plus, they're no longer lo-fi!! Except for the guitar, but hey, it's the Black Keys. :thu:

But seriously, it's still the Black Keys, and it still rocks. You can definitely hear the Danger Mouse influence, but it's definitely a cool new direction in my opinion.

Stand-out Tracks: Strange Times, Psychotic Girl, Same Old Thing (rock flute, FTW!), and Remember When. That said, they're all really good, so I would suggest getting the whole album instead of just these couple of songs. :thu:

What do they use to get those damned tones?

I like it, but it's definitely different than their past albums. A lot of organ, and bass on pretty much every track. It's not nearly as stripped down as their early records, but they still kept their grit intact. Still a very cool record.

Cheap Guitar + Fuzz + Cheap Amp + Tape 8-Track
:thu:

I don't know about ALL OF THAT:cop::). He has some really nice guitars and the boutique amp he uses most of the time is made out of his hometown. He bounces between fuzzes, but he says his favorite is the jordan bosstone but it doesn't work well for him live...
