Members OldCrankyDouche
My girlfriend was in REAL bad shape last week due to one, and Im starting with the same symptoms. I know they arent contagious, but if germs are swapped..... I have no insurance, so I was thinking about putting a "WTB: antibiotics" in the SPAM thread. :stabs kindneys:

Members zachary vex
Urgent care, immediately.
Members Lanefair
There are a lot of natural foods you could buy to help that. Cranberry juice and lemon barley water and oily fish. Google it though because I might be confusing it with cystitis.

Members OldCrankyDouche
did you guys cut each other open or anything? No. But bacteria from her can get into me via.....ya know. I dont have insurance (i know my life is more important than $$), so Im taking leftover antibiotics from last time I had an infection (non-kidney). If its worsened or not improved by tomorrow morning, Ill be heading to UC.
Members Marmoset King
Go get yourself checked out. I always find it alarming, the whole insurance thing for healthcare in the states. Our National Health Service gets a lot of bad press but i'm always glad it's there when i need it. Hope you're ok.
Members OldCrankyDouche
I think Im fine. I hate diagnosing myself, but I have the EXACT same symptoms that my girlfriend had at the beginning of her infection. Her immune system is {censored}. Mine should be able to kick this much faster, without getting into hospitalisation symptoms. Thanks for the kind wishes from everyone. If I die, I want all of my pedals, my LP, and my JC-120 to go to............ my grave. Now, for joking around, the disease gods are going to kill me by the end of the day... Members Crxsh
Yeah... I'd recommend you get checked out. My supervisor here at work got some kind of kidney infection. She tried the natural stuff (Cranberries, fish, etc.) for awhile and ended up in the hospital with Kidney stones. Nasty stuff. She wasn't at work for the better part of a week. Members OldCrankyDouche
I halted that. I called a friend of the family who is a nurse. She said: "If you are going to be a stubborn bull, and avoid the doctor, take Cranberry Extract vitamins, drink TONS of water, and if the fever gets high, ice the forehead. Give it 24 hours, and if the symptoms dont get any better, go to the doctor. O Aaron." Just like that.
Members almightycrunch
Im a nurse as well, I have mixed emotions about cranberry, have spoken about it quite a bit with an MD friend of mine. Truth is, the medical community(at least from the physician side) dont really feel that evidence has shown any real benefits from cranberry juice or extract what have you. The only benefit that he would really give it, is the fluid it provides for flushing out the system. What WAS the antibiotic you were taking? Members OldCrankyDouche
I wasnt taking any antibiotics yet. I believe it was a -cillin. Peni or amox? It was from the strep I had a few months back. Silly and STUBBORN question. But do you have any other non-doctor-visit ideas?
Members almightycrunch
Well, cillins are definitely used for UTI's, but of course they are used after determining sensitivity, which you have not had completed. As far as non-doctor ideas, you have already been given basically the only advice I would give as well, drink a LOT of water to try and flush it out. This is good advice in theory, and is a good "canned response" however, effectiveness of this treatment is suspect at best. Unfortunately, the "best" scenario here is for you to be evaluated my your MD. BTW what are your symptoms??
Members OldCrankyDouche
Mild flushing/chills. Accompanied by semi-annoying, yet weak, headache.Backache.Nausea, but not to the point of cringing of vomiting. Should I refrain from taking a pain reliever (ibuprofen, acetominophin) for the aches and fever?
Members almightycrunch
no, definitely treat your symptoms. I think the jump from her having a kidney infection, to you catching it from her is suspect as well. You may have something else going on there. Kidney infections generally come about as a result of a long standing urinary infection. Women are much more susceptible to urinary infections then are males, as the trip from the opening of the urethra into the bladder is only about 3/4 of an inch, versus several inches for the male. You're probably gonna want to be seen, but you can give the other treatments a try first. Just dont let it go too long if you're not seeing any improvement in the next day or so. Members OldCrankyDouche
Will do. Thanks man. I mean...if we have unprotected sex, and she has the bacteria in her system.....? I love the fact that Im getting logical medical advice from Tony Danzig. Thanks again. I definitely wont wait to go to the DR if it gets any worse. I know how bad my gf was. Members almightycrunch
Well, remember that if she had a kidney infection, the bacteria are or were in her kidneys/ureters/bladder/urethra, not IN her vagina.
