OT: I think I managed to find a new job!

A couple of weeks ago, I told my boss I was looking for a new job.

It wasn't meant to be arrogant, but I wanted to give him time to find a replacement.

Needless to say, he took it pretty badly. The funny thing is, he's been taking advantage of me for the last 4 1/2 years, mostly because he knows I have a family to feed.

Even though I work for a reasonably large corporation, each branch is pretty small.

Hopefully, after I go Union at my new job, I'll be able to get my right-hand-man in. Technically, he trained me, but as things work out...I've been his boss for two years now.

As a side note: Travel distance will be cut (almost) in half (I drive 38.2 miles each way, now), and I'll get a $2.00 raise over my current salary.I hope that means I'll be able to afford a better car. My '05 Saturn Ion is OK, but it would be nice...

Just wanted to share.

BTW: It's amazing how much you can ask for as a starting salary, when you're not worried about drug tests.:cop:

P.S>. Maybe I'll be able to start NPD threads, in a couple of months!

Congrats man! I have a pretty crappy job, but they are really flexible with me while I am in school. Hopefully after I get my degree I can do something I like!

P.S. I don't know who the heck saturns were designed for (my guess is very short women) but they are soooo uncomfortable. I am only 5'7" and it's too small for me. Chevy Cobalt is a nice ride for an economy car.

Drug tests ??? wtf

Congrats on new job. I'm looking for a new one too. Can't stand where i am now.

Here in the "Land of the Free", workers are subject to drug screening, physicals, credit checks, criminal record checks.....

Then, as long as you can bull{censored} your way through the interview process (which relies on psychological studies of answers to specific questions), affirmative action doesn't have a quota you can't help meet, and you "look" like what the prospective employer would like..........

Your previous experience, and qualifications could land you a steady income.

-end rant :poke:

Got the job!

I put in notice, today. Now, I'll have the weekend of May 3/4 off, and start on Monday.

I was offered a position at a $4.00/hr increase over my current salary.......

and I'm in charge of a clamp-truck, and some rolls of paper.

Currently, I'm in charge of a warehouse, two truck drivers, five employees, and all of the shipping/receiving at my company's branch.

No vacation time for a year, but my current job owes me about 1K, for unused time. So, I'll be getting paid for about a month after I start the new job.

Surprisingly, my current boss told me that I should cut my resume to one page. I guess he doesn't have four pages of experience, huh?

Thanks again for the well wishes!:thu:

Your CV is 4 pages long? You'd be surprised how many potential employers would bin your CV without even looking at it based purely on it's size.

CVs need to be 1 to 2 pages long maximum, and bullet pointed to concisely show your achievements and experience.

4 pages is too much reading for anyone, that {censored} is only interesting to you.

I'm 34 years old, and have quite a few occupational achievements....being motivated, and dedicated can get you quite far!

EG: Starting as a temp, doing menial labor to start...and running the place, in less than four years, takes a unique skill set.

Nah I probably did too.

All I'm saying is it's better to use...

...than to spend 2 paragraphs typing out the story of how that happened, because it's clear, it grabs your attention and you can get the gist of it without spending too much time reading it. That's a basic {censored}ty example, but you get the point. Seems like it worked out for you anyway though :)
