I have an RV-3. It was the 1st pedal I bought. I tend to use it as a short delay with a splash of reverb. Subtle, but I love it.

I haven't looked at any other reverb/delay pedals since I got it. It certainly does everything that I need it to do.

It was my first delay pedal as well...I got it in a trade from a pawnshop a few years back. I've since gotten a number of delays (a couple DMM's, Ibanez ADL, Boss DD-2, a handful of others...) and the RV-3 always stays on my board for one purpose or another.

It's the only pedal that I've kept for more than a few years. Now lives on my acoustic pedal board, and brings just the perfect bright ambience to my Cole Clark and Lowden

Well sorry to rain on the parade but I hated that pedal with a passion. I was so happy to sell it off and get a verbzilla instead. The reverb sounded way to digital and metallic for my taste. To each his own I guess.

Eh...I don't think the RV-3 sounds that natural. I prefer the Holy Grail (Plus).

The RV-3s reverbs aren't natural, I agree. They're cold and metallic, and prone to having a high pitched ringing. But for some applications it can be cool. I prefer the Holy Grail too for spring and hall reverbs, but the Holy Grail doesn't do the long plate reverbs.

By any chance did you buy it off 'biancatree' or someone? I had my eye on an RV-3, boxed, great condition. The guy had billed it as "Boss RV-3 digital reverb, rare discontiniued". I sent him a message about the reverb settings and he didn't have a clue what I was talking about and suggested I "try one out in my local guitar shop". Would that be the
discontinued
pedal that we're talking about then?

That and some negative feedback made me back out. Damn, I bet it was this one you got!
:D

nah, i got the one listed as "effects pedal". gotta love poor sellers. :)

i'm not sure the RV-3's delay is that usable for me since i generally like my delays analog or tape (or sims of them anyway).. but the reverb is really nice. pristine, yes, but not nearly as harsh as the RV-5 and it can go much bassier on the RV-3 aswell.

the plate mode has some serious boom in the low frequencies. much different to almost all other plate modes i've played through.. that could be annoying but not if you want a massive long decaying sound!

but it seems to be a great go-to pedal for general ambience so far. probably because all of the modes actually sound decent. it doesn't have any weak modes like others do. definite keeper.
