something that has an optional modulation effect...DMM, DD-20, several others out there as well. i think most delays are capable of slap back, you just need to find it on the dial...for some reason i always think of the ibanez ad-9 when i think of slap though.

Might want to mention your price range since there are so many options to choose from. I'd probably recommend a DD-20 as a great delay pedal for someone who is new to delay and wants a lot of options. If moneys not a big deal and delay is going to be a big part of your sound the Timefactor is my favorite delay pedal.

All delays are capable of slapback. The CC has optional modulation. Go with that.

Problem with analog delay is that at slapback time settings it can get overly bright which may not appeal to everyone, so personally I'd go for a warm sounding digital delay for slapback. Also EVH isn't exactly noted for analog delay sounds and for metal it can get muddy very quickly.

There are cheaper options for sure, but I'm really loving my DLS EchoTAP right now. I just got it, so I'm still honeymooning .... but still. This sounds better than any Boss delay I've ever had. Slapback on it is magical too..... and it's got a small number of nice features.

+1 and I don't feel I need reverb with the EchoTap like I have in the past with other digital delays. It adds its own ambience

I'm really liking it too! :thu:

I think I'll hang onto my RV-3 .... but you're right. This EchoTAP is great.

I can tell you that the RV-3 is excellent at doing slapback delay sounds and shower verbs. The longer settings are still pretty clean, though.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. It's also $1150. But it is the beeeeest.

You can get them used at a good price. got mine for 850.00, saw one sold on e-bay yesterday for 700.00. These babys havent been out very long so buying a used one is like getting a new one. Mine only had been used a couple of times-dead mint. I know it is still alot of money for one but I can honestly say its the best piece of musical equiptment I ever bought. No delay

known to man sounds as good as the TTE. Sure there are more delays out there that have more bells and whistles but not a one that even comes close

to the sound quality of the TTE. I never would have believed it if I didnt take the plunge and bought one. Problem now is I cant use any other delay anymore....they just sound too processed and fake.
