Members bondini
I love my old Picture wah but running in front of dirt (Skreddy screwdriver, Mayo, OCD) it gets a bit lost. I'm interested in the retrofit from foxrox but will it change the way the wah sounds clean? Other wahs I've had that have worked better with dirt have been less good clean and have lacked a certain squelch, sparkle and resonance that my old pic wah has, & I don't want to mess it up!Thanks a lot
Members Michael Patrick
I didn't notice any change after having one installed in my trusty old (and I do mean old...) Vox V846.
Members bondini
But you noticed a change for the better with dirt? That's the other thing, my dirt isn't even fuzz really, just kinda fuzzy!

With germanium based fuzzes, yeah. The maddening oscillation was gone. This is what the FRWR is intended to fix. With overdrives and non-germanium based fuzzes, no difference. Members bondini
How about big muff clones? (afraid I do't know my silicon from my germanium from my kryptonite)
Members TechBrother
My wah doesn't play well w/ my fuzz (Ge Fuzz Face clone) but I found that putting a compressor in between helps a lot. That's the ONLY pedal that doesn't like my wah. How much is the retrofit kit?
Members Michael Patrick
I think a Muff will overtake anything you put in front of it. The wah retrofit isn't going to do anything about that. That's not what it is for. The retrofit is specifically for making your wah play nice with germanium fuzz face-type pedals. Period.

If you do have such pedals then Yes. It is great for that.
Members L_Z_nut
You could make one for soooo much cheaper. http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=75&Itemid=26 http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=74&Itemid=26 *very bottom.http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/mccoy.php
Members bondini
OK thanks guys - so is there anything I can do to increase the wah effect on my mayo? It's not just how pronounced the sweep is; if I leave the wah in one position and hol a note my signal drops away where I would expect tons of sustain

Members bondini
I have never tried a compressor in 22 years of playing...... maybe it is time! I really dig dynamics though, but I suppost I could just kick it in for the exciting parts? (starts a "which is the best compressor?" thread )

Personally I can't stand the sound of distortion before the wah, but maybe that's the ticket to the sound you seek.

(starts a "which is the best compressor?" thread ) If you're playing w/ a band or gigging I find that a good compressor shouldn't kill your dynamics. I find the opposite happens b/c now you can hear everything the guitarist playing. There's a million compressors our there but please for your own sake, don't spend $300 for a ross clone with more knobs. Also I find that if you don't like a compressed sound it's still useful to have b/c of how it plays w/ other pedals. I love my fuzz w/ comp in front. It gets thicker, sputtery and sustains into useable feedback.

(and I don't like any more than 3 knobs personally, less ideally!)Cheers mate, I'm going to find something cheap to have a turn. As to dirt before wah, no it sucks

Others I've tried and like include the Puch Factory and the Barber Tone Press. Both are more transparent than the dynacomp though. I'm still curious aboot adding a buffer circuit to a wah. LZNUT, which buffer circuit from GGG's page would work best for this application?
Members bondini
Yeah I'm still curious about adding a buffer to a wah too - I'm really trying not to get into needing any extra pedals, running 9 already..
