Members RedJamaX
Has anybody used any of the tube pre-amp pedals across a solid state amp? does it actually sound really good.. worth the money?? Im looking at one made by Seymour Duncan for about $220 at GC online.

Members Lanefair
Yeah buy a tube amp. If you wanted a woman for the night, you'd get a woman, you wouldn't buy some makeup and get a man.

Members soapbars
ive got to say get a tube amp too, but the ehx 2ube sounds great on tube and solid state amps, it wont make a ss amp sound like an all tube amp, but itll give you little bit of an extra punch to your sound and definately get a step closerl. Members dap99
Agreed. Get a tube amp. You won't regret it (unless you get a lame tube amp - you might want to run it by us first ) Otherwise it's lipstick on a pig

Members Dinosaur Sr.
Before I had the money to go the tube amp route, I used a Powerblock (ugh..) which was very stale sounding and muddy. I bought an English Muff'n about 6 months before I switched to a straight tube amp and, while it didn't make the Powerblock into an actual tube amp, it gave my rig a MUCH more dynamic feel, and the dirtier settings were miles above the Powerblock "distortion". It helped so much that I would just set the pedal on top of the cabinet itself and run it like my amp channel, right in front of the amp, after everything else in my chain. I think that if you're in my position of not having the cash to buy/maintain a tube amp, a tube pedal, especially one set at some light breakup settings, really does help a solid state amp, just make sure you keep the amp itself relatively clean. It worked for me pretty well, though you can definitely argue that an actual tube amp completely eclipses most solid state amps, regardless of what pedals you use. But for good tone on the cheap, or to fill the void while you save for a tube amp, I most definitely would not argue against it. Just don't pay $250 for one, because that is money better spent on an amp.

Members bieke
I'd also suggest upgrading your amp, or just the head, 180$ will get you a Blackheart Little Giant BH5H Guitar Amplifier Head for example that you could hook up to your Crate cab. Members ambys
The SFX-03 blows pretty hard even if you have a tube amp.
Members tubetonez
It's not complete heresy, Shawn Lane used to play through Holmes Mississippi Blues Master SS heads and used a Westbury tube overdrive:
