Is the Bad horsie wah bad?

Or disregard HC user reviews? I decided to read up on it today and wow some of the reviews really put it down. I started looked into other wahs and if the Bad Horsie isn't that great then I'd look into getting the 535Q Dunlop Wah (TB?) or the Tremonti Wah. Or will the Original Crybaby (modded for TB and vocal mod) get me a great wah for less? I need it for high gain situations (Bullet For My Valentine solos and some Slash solos).

I had a bad horsie II. I liked it for what it was. I am not a big wah user, so i sold it.

I liked how it had two settings (contour and normal). I also liked how it automatically fell back into the off position. If you wanted a cocked sound, this is not for you though.

I mostly used it for a slow wah with dirt on or at least an overdrive. It is good to slowly rock forward. I also used the contour switch to turn it on and put the toe down to get feedback.

I have the original Bad Horsie and while it may not be the greatest wah in the world, it has one feature that I'll never be without again. That's the spring loaded pedal that turns on as soon as you step on it, and off when you step off. That alone makes it great for me.

The Bad Horsie II has adjustable contour and level. I haven't tried one yet but I'll bet I'd love it even more as I'd love to be able to back the level off for some stuff.

Tone sucking? I read their buffer bypass was top notch but of course there were some HC reviews that said otherwise. What kind of stuff do you use it for (genre wise)?

Dude, it's meant for high gain, it does fine with cleans but that's not its strong point.

If you're looking to play cleaner music, try the Budda bud-wah, or a

Dunlop Buddy guy wah.

It really depends on what YOU are going to use it for. ;)

Bypass isn't very good, so I put mine in my loop. Spring loaded feature is a life saver.

If you wanna hear it listen to the song "Linus-X" on the following myspace.

Not the best quality, or song for that matter, but if you click download instead of listen off myspace, you should get a pretty good idea. It's through the clean channel of a Mesa Tremoverb with some gain and a bit of reverb.

Love the Bad Horsie, especially because of the switching that others have talked about. If you can find one, I recently got the Morley George Lynch Dragon wah and it is the best wah I've used for hard rock applications! The regular wah mode is very close to the Bad Horsie sound with possibly a little less high-end, more warmth, and it has a complete different mode "WOW" that is very usable as well. Sounds a lot like the Wylde wah. It was a limited offer though, so they can be harder to find and prices vary a ton...

I got a call to visit Vai during a soundcheck for the Zappa plays Zappa tour, here in Melbourne, last November. Thomas Nordegg, Vai's tech, wanted me to bring in a Gig-Fx wah for Steve to check out (my distro looks after Gig-Fx and others downunder). Anyway, while I was there I was interested to check out what Steve had on his board. I took a few pics. (There's a pic below, more if you want to see them). I can tell you one thing though: He favored the Cry Baby over his own model. Thomas said he hardly used the BH at all. Steve, by the way, was a very personable guy, nice fella.
