ac30 loudness/power question/issue.

Ok. So i've been messing with my setup on my ac30.

And i've noticed a HUGE volume differences when having it set for different options from the back.

I now have it set at.

Modern and Warm. Instead of Modern and Hot. I found the hot to be to bright.

Well. When it was set for hot, there was a drastic change in volume on the master from 4-6. But now when on warm to achieve the same volume it has to be put at 8. And there is not much of a volume sweep in loudness when doing this.

Tube change?

I don't think those switches have anything to do with the valves.
:idk:

Actually they do.

Seeing how on the back on i think the two options i'm talking about says "biasing"

Usually when you bias an amp you set the valves hot or cold.

oh, so your running it at the 22w option then maybe?

"The amp can be run at 22W, giving a warmer sound at lower volumes and prolonged tube life, or 33W for more clean headroom and overall level. You can also switch the PSU capacitors for a looser or tighter response."

How do you tell if its at that.

I want the most headroom, and to be able to turn that {censored}er up without distorting.

{censored} knows, you're the one who owns it!! look in the manual!!

I guess that's what the 'hot/warm" switch does? :)

These are the options.

# Output (O/P) Impedance Select (8 or 16 Ohm);

# Output Bias (82 "Warm" or 50 "Hot");

# Smoothing (22uF "Vintage" or 44uF "Modern");

I have 16 ohms *(i think, what ever it came set at.), Warm, Modern.

here you go weemster.

Output Bias: This allows for specific biasing of your amplifier.

Warm: This setting will run your amplifier at about 22 watts clean (before clipping) which is

similar to an early 4 input AC30. What this means to you is that you

more..

Smoothing: This changes the values of the filter caps within your amplifier.
22?f Vintage: This setting is similar to vintage AC30s where your sound will be more open and
loose. You may experience slightly more

I just found the manual online.

It answered my question. I changed my wattage to 22. Which would explain the drastic volume decrease.

cool. yeah, it seems that on 'warm' it runs the tubes at much lower bias giving you a lower output, leave it on hot and crank the beast!! :lol:

It just seemed as if it made it literally a hotter signal and brighter. And i liked it a bit warmer.

Why don't you keep it on modern/hot and turn the cut knob down?

Thats what i was planning on doing today in practice. I was going to go a few minutes early to play around with my setup. I'm also bringing the SD1 into practice, seeing if it knocks the Hotcake off my board.

Mama always said pedals are like a box of chocolates.

... and Boss overdrives are the coconut ones.

You mean the ones that leave an annoying aftertaste in your mouth and you can never quite get all the bits out from between your teeth?
