Assume I'm not a huge fan of outta-there modulations, delay/loopers with twenty knobs, or fuzzes that sound like robots {censored}ting spiked dodecahedrons. I'm mostly against choruses and flangers, and other stuff that I won't use that often, and I play mostly straightforward heavier alt/indie stuff.

My current planned pedalboard has: One-two OD/dists, a boost, a fuzz, a simple delay, a slightly more complex multiple-mode delay, a noise gate, and a reverb. My pedalboard and power patch cables roughly give me two more options to fill, so suggest me crap!

You don't need anything. What do you want?

I dunno. My amp has a pretty decent graphic EQ, and my Diamond comp does a great tilt EQ, so I don't think I need an EQ pedal. I'm almost tempted to get a flanger so I can make crazy speed metal/video-game-ish sounds (think The Black Mages), but that's kinda tacky. I'm not too decided on phasers yet.

Polychorus. That's where you should start.

Ehhhhhh. Too morello.

Ehhhhhh. Close minded.

Seriously, that's like someone bringing up Mazda and someone else responding, "ehhhhhh miata."

Tons of bands use whammy. In fact, there are far more examples of whammy on albums that DON'T sound ANYTHING like Morello.

A few examples. Just go play with one. If you're creative enough, I promise you will find TONS of things to do with delay. Try it out with a delay pedal, your volume knob, clean settings, ect. Tons of things to do with a whammy (or pitch shifter in general).

I'm not sure what sound you are really after, but I can make a suggestion.
As far as delays go, whether simple or not, if you can't match the delay's repeat time delay to the tempo of what you are playing, you might as well throw them out.
I have been working on my sound for over 30 years and have found this to be the most critical part of the picture.
I play a strat to a MXR phase 90 script to a volume pedal to a Korg rack mount tuner to a Roland GP-16 to a Mesa Boogie Mark III.
The GP-16 has multiple echos in it... independent 0 to 1000 ms left, right and center echoes plus another echo (1 to 100 ms)...get one off Ebay.
You won't be sorry.
