Anyone own one of those low end Gretsch jet series?

Jay Farrar of Son Volt played them on tour a few years back:

He had upgraded to a MIA version last week when I saw them, but I don't think thats a knock on the Electromatics. I think sa1126 might have one as well.

I'd love an Electromatic Jet with Bigsby, but the American versions are sooo much nicer looking and feeling.

I would just save for one if I was shopping. There's a '63 Nashville in my local shop that I think will be my next guitar purchase. It's perfectly reliced, and plays ridiculously nice still.

Wow, that is stunning. Is that a Duo Jet or a Power Jet?

Psssh yeah, you're telling me. The tuxedo colours are friggin' gorgeous.

That model is a Pro Jet II, apparently a rare model. Found it on Google, the site says it sold for $810!

I want a Power Jet. I very nearly bought one back in the day. Bought another tele instead.

haha, same deal, only I was looking at the same Electromatic Jet in the OP.

Gretsch + Fender =

Finish it off with a Gibson J-45 and my guitars are complete.

ugh. i just got back from checking one out.

not that great. dull pickups, felt kinda cheap, and the pickups couldnt have been more mismatched.

seriously, some of my criticisms are opinions or whatever but the pickups volume disparity was ridiculous. i dont see how Gretsch could try to sell them that way.

looks neat though. :idk:

about this time last year i went to my local dealer and tried the power jet and the corvette. i walked out with the corvette. the super jet felt way to heavy to sound like it did. i played it through a Hot Rod Deluxe tweaking all the settings on the amp and guitar and i could not get a sound i liked.

Agreed on the pups. I don't like the stock pups on mine. But I bought the guitar NOS for about $200. So I figure if I install some TV Jones for about $250, I still have a decent sounding Gretsch for less than $500.

I played a bunch of electromatics... 5120, Pro Jet, Corvette...

In the end, I sold every other guitar I had to buy a G6120-1960. Big body, Japanese made, Gold Hardware, Filtertrons, Bigsby...

I have not regretted it for one second.

(The Electromatics are good too, ESPECIALLY for the money... WOW)

I bought an Electromatic some years ago

an on-line impulse buy

when I got it (ity was a tobacco sunburst one) I didn't like the finish that well, played it for a couple of days, but hated the looks (read the color) and started to dislike the feel of it as well, even though all it needed was some new strings and a decent set-up and it would be a great player

it didn't have that fat Gretsch sound though, I decided to put it up for sale in a local store (the Electromatics were hard to find in stores over here) and sold it with a profit

;)

so it was a good buy and a great value for money
