Members Burstbucker
I just recently ended up with a MI Audio Crunch Box pedal in a trade, it's a pretty good sounding "Marshall-in-a-box" kinda pedal but how does it fair against say a Menatone King Of The Britains pedal? Has anybody here compared these two pedals in a side by side shootout and what are your conclusions?
Members Crxsh
I've never actually played a KoB, so I'm just guessing here -- but I'd reckon that the Crunch Box has more gain in it than the KoB. I mean, they both obviously have quite a bit, since they're based on Marshall, but the Crunch Box sounds like a cranked JCM800, while the KoB is based on a '68 Plexi. All I know is that the Crunch Box has more usable gain in it than any distortion pedal I've ever owned. (Let me qualify that by saying usable gain, IMO, is gain you can use before it becomes hiss and fuzz ... i.e. MT-2) Now, I love the Crunch Box ... but I'd say that if you went to a KoB, you might find it more usable. It has the voicing switch, that handy little boost function and the 3-band EQ. I won't be selling mine any time soon ... but if you're looking for something a little more versatile, the KoB might be for you. Hope that helps. Members Burstbucker
Thanks for your response! I've got the newest version of the Crunch Box BTW, v.2, the one with the internal Presence control. I played around with this pedal last night and I think that it's a real keeper. It goes great with my Fulltone OCD, I use the OCD for medium grit and if I want more of a high-gain Marshall-type of tone I can use the Crunch Box. I also put a Maxon OD-808 first in the chain and push either of these pedals even more. This is a pretty decent arrangement IMHO, I can get LOTS of great sounds!
