Members -MBro-
Im making an ebay purchase soon and am torn between a barber tone press and a Boss CS-3 with a monte allums mod that I will do myself. My budget is about $150 and I will only buy used as I tend to not like pedals and sell them.
Members Exdeath
Can't speak for those two, but I own a Diamond and it's great - you can find'em for around 120-130 used. I hear good things about the Tone Press. The CS-3 + mod is probably a lot cheaper used than both those options, though.

Members english_bob
It goes against your "buy used" rule, but the BYOC 5-Knob comp is within your budget. If you're up to modding the CS-3, building it is well within your capabilities. Be warned that DIY is quite addictive (or insanely depressing and frustrating if you can't get your build to work). Members Mojambo
Between those two I would get the Tone Press. Even after the mod, the Boss CS-3 still squashed my sound too much. I tend to use comps not as an "effect" but just to add a little sustain and evenness to my sound.

I've always been intrigued by the Diamond...cause I'm not looking for squish, but sparkle No, not really subtle. But that's probably because of the EQ knob. The EQ knob can be completely bypassed though. But it does give me sparkle, I'll give you that.
Members DanJep
I use the visual sound comp on my route 66. You can buy it individually now. You could also check out the Homebrew CPR, I played it the other day and really liked it... I'm also quite partial to HBE effects.
Members Nem
I've been looking at the Signa Comp and Ross clone by cmatmods:http://www.cmatmods.com/portal/Home/Effects/tabid/62/Default.aspx They go on eBay used for about $100, but you can get them new for about $120 and both have raving reviews on this site. I've also been looking at a Toadworks Mr. Squishy which is based on an Orange Squeezer:http://www.toadworksusa.com/MS.html They go for roughly the same price as above. I like them both. I have had the signa comp for a year, and have had the ross clone for about 1 week. I'm trying to figure out which one I like best. Both are dead quiet, and are great for rock, blues, jazz, etc. The signa comp can
