What is the stock type neck that comes with a JM? Someone is selling on with a strat neck...Are they the same, what are the differences??

**** I Just realized after posting that this in the effects, sorry. But that should work out since there are some JM fans in here.

Yea, i think JM necks are generally smaller than other fender necks..

Yeah. When I tried out a 03' JM some guy had I really liked the neck, felt better, smaller - from string to string, than other necks

where do you measure radius of necks? I find the necks on a strat and JM to be more similiar then the ~2" difference listed above...

There's a lot of people who have never considered fretboard radius. Imagine looking down the neck from the nut to the neck pickup. You'll see the fretboard isn't flat. A 7.25" radius neck will look more curved than a 12" radius neck.

I'm actually so obsessive with necks, I've got measurements of almost every guitar I've owned in my lifetime. It's helped me build up what I like and don't like. Of all the Fenders I've played, the CIJ Jazzmaster neck was the widest out of some eight instruments ranging a Silver Series Squier Tele, CIJ Jag, several Strats and a Fender Cyclone II. The smaller string spacing you describe sounds like the nut was cut pretty tight in terms of string spacing. Personally I like the nut as wide as possible because my fingers are kinda short and stubby. I pretty much can't play a Strat with a 7.25" radius neck and a 1 5/8th nut. As for Rickenbackers.. eek! I tried, I tried! Too cramped! :)

Yeah ricks are too small. Maybe my description of the neck wasn't good. I have big hands, my fingers could move around good on the the neck, no trouble with hitting more than one note at a time....

The Jazzmaster I'm looking at is a 1965 body with the original electronics and he says it has a "warmoth strat neck"

Any thoughts??

Any pictures online available?

Ask him if it's a Warmoth Strat neck with a compound radius.
