Members willburford
I have a bit of a dilemma. I have a single red lace sensor that I'm trying to figure out a way to get into my 1994 american standard tele. It's made for strats, so I could just route out the extra space and screw it in, but then I have those 3 ugly holes left where the old pup would be. Any advice? Anyone done this before? Members willburford
Yeah, but then there are still those 3 holes. Is there a special bridge or something?
Members dap99
I had a Tele Plus exactly like the one Jonny Greenwood had w/ the Lace Sesors and I don't remember there being anything special about those pups. All hype as far as I'm concerned, but maybe I'm missing something. NEway, couldn't you have he spot routed out and then get a new pick guard and have that routed too? Members MathiasWilliam
you will defanately find a difference in the pups comparing a standard to the plus. The Red Lace are fenders highest output pickups.
Members willburford
Yeah, I've heard that, but I need to experience it myself. lolAlso, I've got really weak pups right now and I really want hotter ones. The 'noiselessness' could just be an extra feature. NEway, couldn't you have he spot routed out and then get a new pick guard and have that routed too? That's a good idea. 'Preciate it. What pickguard would I get though?
Members phyrexia
they are ungodly hot.
Members willburford
^ This is good.I still don't know what pickguard would work though.
Members dap99
^ This is good. I still don't know what pickguard would work though. Which pup do you want to replace? The neck or bridge? The bridge would be a pain b/c of the metal plate. for the neck, I'd imagine you could just route out the existing hole and then do the same thing to the pick guard you already have. The dudes at the guitar forum would really know the best way to do this
Members willburford
Bridge and neck. Thanks, I'll post this thread over there.
Members dap99
Keep up posted.. I'd be interested in seeing it. so when did the Lace Sensor thing make a comeback? IIRC, the fad only lasted a few years (I got my Tele back in 92 I believe). Mine had the Red HB in the bridge w/ the mini toggle so you could split the coils and the Blue in the neck. I don't remember loving it, but it did a good job. I got it back in the day for $670 and sold it on the bay a few years ago for $900. I don't think it was worth that much, but the buyer did - and I ended up becoming friends w/ him which was cool.
Members Servant
I out a Tone Zone in the bridge of a friend's Tele a week ago - fwiw it is an amazingly hot and flat pickup. I'll be adding some myself in the next few weeks. Best tele bridge I've ever heard and is very quiet. Stacked poles FTW!
Members tetaJ
Why don't you get a Tom Anderson pickup? Not spam, but i am selling a SD2.By the way, i also have a blue, two reds, and i think the other one is a gold or silver somewhere lying around. I changed to Andersons years ago and i can't see myself going back. As i said, if you are interested, i have a SD2 for sale.
Members willburford
Yeah, I will dap! If it even works out, lol.I have no clue, I just like radiohead and the smashing pumpkins. If these don't work out, I'll check out the tone zone... thanks. Also the andersons.I really want to get this worked out though, because I already bought them and I love the sounds of the smashing pumpkins/radiohead both clean and dirty. Members MacBradley
FYI you WILL be having to switch pickups everytime you wanna play clean. The red lace will NOT sound good on clean, whereas the blue will. Practice at flicking your pickup toggler thingy!

I switch to my neck for cleans alot anyway just because i like the clean sound of neck pickups always..but i don't mind the sound of it...though i barely have my red lace as single coils anymore. Members V
Man, I really love lace Pickups. Then again, I have a Lace Custom shop set in my strat that sounds really great. It uses a "50s Style" Red Bridge Pickup. I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds awesome dirty and gets a really badass surf sound clean. Members willburford
So you're saying the red won't sound good clean? I don't know, I think it might. I don't use the bridge pickup for cleans a lot anyway, so eh. Actually, I love Jonny Greenwood. I forgot he used those. Proceed! yes, please. Phil O'Keefe
if it weren't for the :poke: there would already be a bomb in your mailbox. Whoah... "bombs in mailboxes" are not funny - even in jest, that sort of thing is never acceptable here on HC. Sorry - One week off... *****I've got a blue Lace Sensor in the bridge position of my Tele. It's a bit hotter than the stock pup was, and a bit warmer... it's supposed to be a PAF type sound, but it doesn't sound much like a humbucker to me - it still sounds like a Tele, just a bit thicker and meatier. The red LS is quite a bit hotter IIRC... I don't remember my old HB red LS being all that hot back in the day. It was definitely a HB, but nothing like an EMG or anything. And also, IIRC, it sounded decent clean.
