Hey I was just wondering if any has any recommendations for a od/dist that can serve as a great low gain machine but gets really fuzzy at higher gains. Similar to my ocd I guess, but more like a big muff.

besides screwdriver btw

Well... since the screwdriver is out ...

I'd look three places:

1) MI Audio Blues Pro Overdrive (V2 w/ Fuzzz Switch)

2) JHS BluDrive (modded bd-2 w/ fuzztain switch)

3) Keeley Fuzz Freak BD-2 (same idea as #2, only more expensive)

Tube Sound Fuzz. Aka Way Huge Red Llama. There are clones about. They're lower gain than a muff, alot lower gain, quite an understated pedal but it's like an amalgamation of overdrive and fuzz. Very cutting but not shrill, defined more like. Gets very 'warm' sounding too on the neck pickup of my tele.

The Danelectro Fab Tone distortion is pretty fuzzy. Reminds me of a much higher gain Holy Stain fuzz setting with more treble going on.

I  my Fab Tone!

:freak:

However, it won't do low gain. At all. Roll back the "Fab" setting and the least you'll get out of it is very, very dirty late '70s rock. And that would be pushing it. But if you're after higher gain stuff, holy yes it's awesome. Roll the treble back and put the bass up a bit, it's like a Big Muff if a Big Muff were made by satan and then he pooped on it, oh yes.

Rat

MXR Distortion +

Digitech Hot Rod Rock Distortion - can get very od'ish, boss DS-1, and Muffish sounds by diddling with the morph and gain.

Vodka modded Boss SD-1 with dual switches

Oh, and the EHX Tube Zipper - my fav :)
