Yay, new pedal & pickguard day!

VoxTeleRat.jpg

Recently received a modded '91 Vintage Rat from forumite 6StrngStrangler (who is great to deal with, btw), and a gold Telecaster pickguard from WD Music. The guard is self-explanitory, but the Rat is another story. I also did up a clip of the intro to Thrice's "Firebreather", as this pedal is basically that sound in a box and then some.

The Rat is modded with an extra knob that acts as almost a reverse filter; what's taken away tonally by the middle filter knob, you can retain and dial back in with the extra one. It is also Ruetz modded, has a blue LED installed, a 3-way toggle to select LM308, LED or MOSFET clipping (basically Vintage Rat, Turbo Rat, or a nice loud boost), and also has a Boss 9VDC power input installed. This thing is great! :thu:

what kind of effect did you use on the recording? Did you overdub with a couple layers? It doesn't sound like a one-shot recording.

Nice setup, btw.

Two tracks, one with humbuckers and one with single coils with the mic moved slightly between the two. I also did a faux bass track with my Digitech Whammy. Dash of verb and compression in post, and lastly added that siren thinger which I stretched out and made it all bitcrushed sounding. :) Thanks.

Eddie was using an Epi Sheraton the other night for a faux bass. It was kinda cool.

I dig the gold tuners. I like the way you've got all kindsa bits on that tele. What was it originally, highway 1?

Yessir. It's actually beat to {censored}, I've had it for just over a year and a half and from constant playing its wearing quite well. It's really hard to photograph but easy to see in person.

Did 6strng perform the mods on that pedal or did he have someone else do it? I'm interested in the led mod and the "modified" Reutz mod, which it looks like you've got (where the resistor is replaced with a pot instead of just clipped).

Honestly, I'm not sure. The 4th pot is an additional tone stack that works like the cut knob on an AC30 (ie. backwards), AFIAK the Ruetz mod is just snipped the 47ohm resisitor to lower the gain? Best bet is to PM him to get more info, that's just what he told me when I bought it.
