I didn't get into Meshuggah till recently, and the only album I own is Destroy Erase...., but I can definitely appreciate what they have done for heavy music. I think the most interesting part about this band is that the drummer often plays in 4/4, or other seemingly simple time-signatures, but all the other instruments are doing something else entirely different, which makes for a pretty radical sound. Good stuff :thu:

love the new one. i wasn't too crazy about catch 33. the 'I' ep is freaking amazing, too.

yeah i agree with that...but the new album is amazing...the opening song is just in your face...the band is so powerful, and the vocalist is IMO the best screaming vocalist out there...but i think i started a thread about their new album awhile ago...i think the title of the thread is the new albums name...check in there to see what others had to say :thu:

I hate to sound like a...whatever it is I will sound like, but I really miss the old Meshuggah. None and Destroy Erase Improve really destroyed me. Chaosphere and I were decent. other than that, I find myself bored with their albums. Especially the new one, which just reminds me of Nothing. I try and listen and then 2 minutes into a song I realize that I'm day dreaming about spaceships or something and I haven't heard a single note. ANd I think it sounds pretty weak in production compared with None especially.

Idunno, it's like they just don't feel like writing songs anymore and instead just come up with a crazy synchopation to repeat for 5 minutes while the drums just stay in 4. I miss the movement, the excitement, the low parts that felt like they were going somewhere instead of just being a break in the song. That is my humble opinion

I got worried that maybe I was getting old and couldn't handle my metal anymore. But then I put in some Necrophagist and all was right with the world.

Great album, really represents the sound of thier last 'eras' well, yet somehow a bit more straight ahead or almost accessible for them (which I didn't mind).

They sound like no other band and that in itself is quite an achievment.

You know I was in Virgin Megastore and I thought of this thread (how sad I know!) so I just picked it up and listened to about half of it on the way home and it blew my head off.

It's so amazing compared to 33 I can't really begin the describe. The overall production is fantastic and I bet it took forever to get the recording and mixing done to such a high level. Giving it another listen right now, thanks Loobster!

ObZen and Nothing are two of the best progressive metal albums ever made. Go ahead and hate me if you're an old Meshuggah fan, but honestly those two albums, and the way in which the band has progressed as a whole, are the most amazing aspects of them.
