Members attic
Alright, so I still have the stock pickups in my american jazzmaster.I'm not quite happy with how the pickups sound. It misses some punch. I hear that people are talking about Curtis Novak, Lollar, Seymour Duncan as replacement pickups. Apparently, Novak has also built humbuckers for the jazzmaster, and I wonder how they sound. Are there any single coils out there that are dead silent when not playing? Thanks... Members bieke
I replaced the stock pups in my MIJ Jazzmaster with Seymour Duncan ones and I would not say these are dead silent.hmmmm, one of Olle's Jazzmasters has intriguing pick-ups
Members attic
Woah! I've been looking at some videos now, and I'm leaning towards Lollars or Novaks. Tough choice though.I hear that those JM-90's from Novak are very quiet. Any confirmations?
Members HeartfeltDawn
When you say you want more punch from your pickups, are you talking output here? On the hum front, have you tried shielding the cavities? Self-adhesive copper foil, spray paint contain brass particles or brass shielding plates can all cut the hum quite a bit. Have a gander here for some ideas:http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/index.php?topic=11283.msg167112 If it's just the pickups, Fralin do reverse-wound pickups that cancel the hum:http://www.fralinpickups.com/jazzmaster.asp

Just something that gives some extra bass + mids while keeping that clean brilliant sound. Thanks for all that info though, I'm checking it right now. Really useful. Members red_riviera
If you want more bass and mids, try the Seymour Duncan Hot for Jazzmaster. I found them to have more low end than I expected and so went with the SD Antiquity II instead. Foil shielding and a common earth helped minimise the hum on my CIJ JM. I'm also working on modding another JM for Fender wide Range humbuckers.
Members attic
At Fralin, I like what I see. I just have a question about the output. I can choose everything in between 6k and 10k output. What does this exactly do? I thought just volume, but I want to be sure... What is the normal rate? Both are very quiet as I recall (haven't played it in a bit as I use a different guitar most of the time for my band, but I need to change that).
