Members Goldtopper
Simple question: Do the 2 Boss pedals which emulate the Fender Amps (FBM-1 and FDR-1) also include cabinet simulation in the mix? (or is it just a recreation of only the amp-head circuitry?)
Members Jbrazz
neither. {censored} simulation.
Members flanging_fred
neither.{censored} simulation. Come on, they're not that bad. These pedals seem to get a lot of hate but mine fdr1 makes my mesa sound very close to my ex silverface fender. It's not perfect but it's definately not {censored}. It was certainly one of the reasons I found myself selling the fender amp.
Members Goldtopper
I didn't mean for this to get into a subjective discussion of the FBM-1 tone. I'm just asking, if the FBM-1's circuitry also includes cabinet simulation for direct-to-PA use. (I would guess if this box is intended mainly to be plugged in front of an amp, then it wouldn't have cabinet sim... but I can't find that for sure anywhere on Google)

Members Goldtopper
OK, assuming these things don't have any cabinet simulation built in, has anyone tried running one into the other? What if I were to put the FBM in front of the FDR.... Keep the FDR on fulltime with a somewhat clean sound + reverb, and occasionally stomp on the FBM (going into the FDR) which is set to a more OD sound? Might that work? Anyone tried both together? Members Goldtopper
The Digitech Screamin Blues pedal has dual outputs: one for an amp, and another with cabinet emulation for going direct to PA http://www.digitech.com/products/ScreaminBlues.htm It would seem the BOSS Fender pedals don't have cabinet simulation (which, for instance would be 4x10" for the Bassman and 1x12" for the Deluxe) So I guess my next question would be... would it make any sense to run the Bassman pedal into the Deluxe pedal.... keeping the Deluxe pedal on all the time with a cleanish reverb sound, and occasionally using the Bassman pedal for leads (set for crunch/OD) into the Deluxe, combining the two pedals? Members flanging_fred
As I stated earlier I have the fdr-1 and a friend of mine has the bassman pedal. I haven't tried running the bassman into the fdr though. I have tried running other distortion/overdrive pedals into the fdr1 and to me it was okay but not really very convincing. I've had the fdr1 a year now and so far I much prefer using the fdr-1 all on it's own into a clean amp. I think you're just going to just have to try it really, the theory sounds okay but only your ears can tell you if you like the sound. Give it a go and see. Members jake.lind
Honestly, I think for the money there are much better sounding options out there. For example, you could get this: http://blackstoneappliances.com/ for quite a bit less than both of those pedals together, and it'll sound amazing. Plus it's dual channel, so you can still do the cleanish/OD scheme you're thinking about.
Members Goldtopper
Jake, I had read up on that Blackstone pedal before. It shows a graph comparing itself to an old 50W Marshall. Have you tried it? If so, does it sorta emulate an old Plexi sound when played direct-to-PA?
Members Goldtopper
Just to give this a bump, apparently there's the Tech21 "Character Series" of pedals, which includes one called the "Blonde" to get the tweed/blonde era sound.. and it includes a speaker sim for DI. http://www.tech21nyc.com/character_series.html Anyone tried this pedal? (or any of the others, particularly DI?)
