Members telepete
So im gonna flog my les paul DC faded and c30 for a new amp. Here's my requirements... -el84 (preferably)-15-30watts - my c30 is more than enough volume, but i miss the 'massiveness' of an amp with more than one speaker (or with bigger speakers). So if there's an amp out there in this watt-range that sounds 'big' and 'open' then great.-only need one channel, i use pedals for dirt.-on board reverb prefered-master volume (if poss.)-standby switch(if poss.) any ideas? Members Belt
Max Butler. Thats what I have. He built one for me last summer. 1 clean channel. Tolex and grill cloth of my choice. But he might not do it... being that you are so far away.

What about a Sound City SC-30C combo? Even better, a Vox AC15 might be cool.
Members english_bob
If you can come up with a little more, you can get a Cornell Romany Plus, which is a 10w 6L6 "super-champ". Great clean sounds (no, not good, actually great.), a little grit at higher levels, plus a 2.5w and 0.25w modes for distortion at low levels and a "tweed" mode for even more dirt and darker tones. Tube-driven spring reverb, 1x12" Jensen, Groove Tubes. IIRC they're

Most of the time, unless the amp is running flat out, I can't tell a whole lot of difference between the 10w and 2.5w modes (mine's an older model which doesn't have the 1/4w mode) in terms of distortion content- the 2.5w mode is a little "squashier"- it doesn't have the sort of sharp attack and pristine quality of the 10w mode- it sounds as if it's a little softer around the edges. It doesn't seem to affect the volume at all.As for the tone- the best thing to do is to try one really, although that'll involve some travelling- I lived in Derby when I bought mine, and there weren't any dealers nearby, so I went to Rainbow Bridge Music in High Wycombe because they were on the way to my parents' house. I think the closest dealers are Dolphin and Rose Lane (where forumite Messiah works) in Liverpool.I don't think any of the US guys' recommendations will fit your budget- I doubt you'll find Aiken or Max Butler amps at all, and I'm pretty sure the Genz Benz and Dr.Z amps carry four figure price tags in the UK. The Deluxe Reverb RI is probably a good one to consider, and you should definitely keep an eye on the classified ads/FreeADS etc for an old Silverface Fender. There are a fair few around, and they're likely to be within your budget- if they're not, you're getting ripped off anyway

(thanks Matt!)It just so happens I have a Romany Plus arriving next week, amongst some other Cornell amps.Just so y'all know, Rose Lane Music is now the main/only Cornell dealer in Liverpool (and beyond...?)... Denis (Cornell) also has some new pedals due out soon, which should be interesting. If anyone wants any further info, feel free to PM me.
