Why are they?

Are the parts in it that expensive? Or something else?

I'm not trying to break them down, because every one I've driven so far rides fantastic (especially the 8 series) but I'm very curious as to why they cost what they cost...

This could apply to any product.

I went and looked at the 3 series convertibles the other day. Last year they cost $40,000. This year they added a new 1 series. The price of the one series convertible is, you guessed it, $40,000. Meaning the 3 series convertible now costs $50,000.

I asked the salesman why they added the one series and he said so they could reach a segment of the market that they weren't meeting before. I responded that he means the middle market. He looked at me funny and said no, the entry level. I said they already had an entry level car, and the new 1 series at the same price just makes the 3 series a new middle market.

He saw where I was going with that and blamed inflation. :blah: I asked if there were any changes from the 2007 model and he said no.

When we test drove it my eight year old got his feet stuck between the front and back seats and almost started crying. I explained that the lack of leg room was a problem and that I would need something bigger, maybe the Mercedes four seat convertible. After the test drive he did the hard sell, "how can I earn your business" {censored}. Well for starters, have a product with enough room in the back for an 8 year old. Second, don't jack the price up by 25% with no significant changes.

Because they come with a full tank of gas. The bigger the BMW, the more gas in it, therefore the higher the cost. Also, ever notice how they never give you matts, they want to re-negotiate when they find out you need fricken matts!? You pay for that! Bigger BMW's come with bigger matts, the bigger the matt the more you're going to pay.

Yes it applies to any product.

In marketing and Business it is called "Valor adquirido", someone will have to translate this but it is close to

"acquired value"

it is the perceived value that a company and it's product have for us in the market, not individually, but for the whole market.

For Example:

If you are buying a Two Rock, it doesn't matter(this is hypothetically) if the amp is made with the same components as a Gorilla amp, they both have a perceived value and an acquired value to the customer(buyer) and it has to do with the positioning and niche market that the company has aimed for and that the consumer has agreed to pay for it or has perceived it in the market.

This is the best i can do in english.
