Members melx
Just seen this on ebay, I've just sent the seller a question telling him I'm pretty certain that it's a reissue, no slide switch, and it looks like it has an LED. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Electro-Harmonix-Big-Muff-Distortion-Pedal_W0QQitemZ350053123347QQihZ022QQcategoryZ22669QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I'd hate to see someone not in the know get ripped off. He's claiming it's a 70's pedal. can some other ebay users send him a polite message confirming my suspicion? He might ignore mine, but he couldn't ignore it if more people told him the same. Members Flying_Milkman
Don't know how to tell. But if that's the case than it's incredibly creepish.
Members Woody777
I think the LED gives it away... I'm pretty sure that no model of vintage Big Muff has an LED. http://electroharmonix.ronsound.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=34&Itemid=
Members billboneys
The scratches on the paint are very consistent. Looks like he "vintaged" it himself. Don't these have some sort of vintage chip that makes them cool or something. Ask to see the chip. Surely someone here knows what to look for. Members Turd Furgison
no slider switch on the top side and an led=probably not vintage. ask for a gut shot, that should clear up any doubts.
Members melx
no slider switch on the top side and an led=probably not vintage.ask for a gut shot, that should clear up any doubts. according to Mr. Ronsound Even the early 80's pedals didn't have an LED and did have a switch, so this definatly isn't a 70's Muff like they claim. this is what Ron says: "To sum it up, the easiest and quickest way to determine if the unit is vintage or reissue is to look at the back for a slide switch. If it's not there, it's a reissue." well that sorts it.

If he doesn't do by lunchtime tomorrow I'm gonna report it to ebay. I hope some mug doesn't go stupid with the bids before then.

Agreed nothing 'inferior' about them, they have an LED and a TB switch for a start! I was playing mine earlier, if I don't play it for a couple of weeks and then plug it in I'm always blown away buy how great it sounds.
Members melx
you guys are good. now what? complaint department on ebay? Hopefully he will add my question to the bottom of the listing and make some addition to the description himself.....I wish I had seen this before, because it's got less than 2 days left, I don't know if ebay will get to it before it ends, Hopefully the seller will pull it and re-list it. Members friction
Definitely a reissue. It doesn't take much for a usa 'muff to get scratched up like that either!
Members SonicVI
A Small Clone also falsely listed as vintage. It is obviously not. I emailed the seller and told them why but they still didn't change it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250241617780

Members SonicVI
How do you tell the difference? The two obvious reasons are the LED is red and 5mm rather than clear 3mm, and there's a hole in circuit board for the footswitch which originals do not have. Members SonicVI
I once saw a scratched up reissue Big Muff at GUITAR CENTER with the tag saying Vintage 70's Big Muff $175. Not surprising really, but it totally pissed me off anyway. I didn't even bother saying anything to anyone.
