Members cantoXIII
ummm....it's Russian Circles, not the Russian Circles. and no offense, but that is a poorly written review.
Members cantoXIII
don't compare them to other bands that suck or have nothing to do with them. saying something is "explosions in the sky-influenced" is a total bull{censored} statement. simply because a part is soft or similar to EITS doesn't mean at all that it was influenced by it. that's making a rash assumption. you also use extremely vague words in describing them: original, enjoyable, etc...that doesn't tell the listener anything about what they actually sound like. are they dynamic? mostly down-tempo, slow, fast? heavy, spacious, glacial? use descriptive adjectives that are applicable in a sense that verbally translates the sound to a reader. lastly, mentioning the "sophomore slump" is entirely cliche. almost as cliche as assuming that concept is actually true. the only bands that happens to are ones that are {censored}ty pop groups to begin with and only had a single hit song and a cd full of leftover filler. this is all just my $.02, but i've written a few reviews and read a million, most of which are total garbage. just trying to prevent you from following the exact same formulaic nature that everyone else will inevitably assimilate into. I'm not sure if you have heard Station yet, probably not, I dled it so...Anyways it's a lot more shoegazey and it has it's EITS elements. I think EITS is the usual cross reference for a lot of these types of bands because EITS paved away for a lot of them. Of course EITS is influenced by other bands, probably RS and other bands listen to those bands as well. With regards to Enter, I agree that EITS wouldn't be a good comparison for sounds and influence but with Station I'd say yes. The end of the last song on Station sounds like Isis. There is Pelican sounds, Red Sparowes, etc.Everyone must buy Station. so good

Members damnuandurdog
Damnuandurdog had entered the effects unknowing what the response would be from their opinion regarding the Russian Circles release. Damnuandurdog had been hesitant in previous opinion releases to let their hair down and really show others their true self. True, damnuandurdog typically types too much to be considered an ethereal ambient poster but the swaying gesticulations between brief synopsis and overly grandiose postings shows that they have mastered the fine art of typing dynamics. Some would compare their usage of slow short typing to large FST PFCED ANGRY TRYUPING to be on the same level as EITS who are the only band in history to have ever used dynamics in their art. Combined with haunting usage of the mellifluous memes 'U F@G' and 'choke on my dick flame stick' and a gusto usually only comparable to matadors, damnuandurdog has come out swinging with this 997th release. What sets the pace of damnuandurdog's posts is the haunting nature of his appearance. Is that really him or is that Chris Cornell? Perhaps neither? Astonishing!! What about the location of Taxxajewsetts? Possible anti-semitism? Does he support the Palestinians? Damnuandurdog's past postings have shown little regard for politics, especially at the International level, but we have seen with their latest posts a new approach in defining themselves in this genre known as the Effects forum. Members pbone
I'm with Canto on this one, Will. The language needs to be tightened up. There are some grammatical errors as well, I'm not going to point it out, but there's a good deal of fluff here. Also, no need to really mention EITS more than once. But it's got a good feel to it, just needs some cleaning up.
Members cantoXIII
anybody who says that RC's sound is influenced by EITS is a {censored}ing moron. i'm pretty sure that ambient/simplistic music was around way before EITS decided to ever plug their prepubescent guitars through delay into fenders. and the connection between isis, pelican, red sparrowes, etc...is so, so, so {censored}ing overdone. yeh, all of those bands have dynamic clean to heavy parts and so on, but jesus...post-metal isn't something new. quit acting like everything that has heavy guitar but is also slightly melodic is a {censored}ing neurosis cover. 3 years ago pelican sounded nothing like isis, and years before that, isis sounded nothing like the watered-down BS they are now. the whole doom/post-metal/sludge/post-rock genre has seriously become the most hip sensation around, and it's turning into another form of bland mainstream music. it saddens me, but whatever. hipsters will be hipsters. and for the record, RC is the most boring band of all of them. 3 people and no vocals? give me a break. if you're only 3 people and you're instrumental, you better be so damn interesting that you can't help but focus on it. RC is mediocre at best, and a lame post-metal ripoff in comparison to their previously unique work as dakota/dakota. and that's my take.
