Fuzz Factory Vs Crazy Horse

I hear the Durham Electronics Crazy Horse is one insane pedal, but how does it compare to the Fuzz Factory? They both seem extremely versatile for different things... From the clips I've heard, it seems like the Crazy Horse nails my desired sound.

Has anyone played both?

I wanted to sell my FF and buy a CH instead the other day. But then I snapped back to reality. Not that the CH is a bad pedal, I just love my FF and I can't part with it.

I really like the OD kinda tone the CH gets alongside the fuzz tone.

I've had both but not at the same time. Sold the FF kept the Crazy Horse.

They really don't sound the same so you could get both and not overlap. The CH is basically a fuzz & an OD circuit blended together where the FF is a "broken" fuzz. CH will go from light gain to a full on my amp is melting sizzle, I couldn't get the FF to do anything but feedback and squeal.

Really depends what you're looking for. If insane to you means self oscillating screechy noise than the CH is pretty tame.

The only reason I'm asking this is because the one HC review compares the CH to a FF. That completely threw me off. I can't find a Crazy Horse in my area, so I'm trying to gather what little information I can find online.

From the clips I've heard, the CH sounds way different than the Fuzz Factory. I own a Zvex FF and the self-oscillating sound is NOT my thing. It's too robotic and not dirty enough.

I'd love to get my hands on the Crazy Horse!

I've had both. And I actually used them at the same time. The Crazy Horse seems more like an insanely overdriven distorted amp. The FF sounds more fuzz-like. The FFactory can get MANY different fuzz tones, the Crazy Horse mostly sounds like an OD/distortion to me (but also can sound like a broken amp).

I have no idea what your "desired sound" is, but I personally ended up selling the crazy horse and keeping the fuzz factory. But now I wish I still had the crazy horse with the FF.

Hey Iamtehcure, I noticed you're in a lot of the other Crazy Horse threads. Has the novelty worn off yet? Are you still loving/using the Crazy Horse? Any growing pains?

think I got it in Nov, I still love it. I use it mostly as a lead boost into a driven amp - gives it a real thick compressed sustain. Hard to explain but you can feel the sag in your fingers.

I used it on a couple of tunes at practice tonight, if the recording came out I'll post a clip.

It does the Neil thing perfectly but there are a lot of other sounds in it. If you dial back the fuzz it works well as a light gain OD.
