Members schecterc1lh
i am looking for the best way to get his tone with my setup (IN SIG) with the addition of a good dirt pedal. I was thinking: skreddy top fuel byoc muff little big muff i really like animals, wish you were here, and the wall tones, so what is my best option? Obviously i would like to spend the least cash possible, but i want a really good tone. If you have other ideas, throw them out there.
Members starsailor803
Those are all good choices. Too bad Skreddy stopped making the Pink Flesh because it's perfect for the Animals/Wall era. The TF is probably close enough but according to Bjorn(gilmourish.com) the BYOC is the way to go for that sound.
Members AcheWater
Go with the BYOC MuffPro Co Rat II (appears on his recent boards) - Gilmore runs an eq either before or after the Rat (maybe both ). I have no ideas how he has it eq'ed though. If you only are going to get one, then go with the BYOC triange muff
Members MadCapLaughs
I run a Top Fuel through an Electric Mistress and some echo into a Champ. Lovely, indeed. Gilmourish, if you will.
Members H.R. Shove and Stuff
From what know/heard, Gilmour used a Si Fuzz Face then rolled the volume on his guitar down a bit to get a more distorted sound for rythm then up again for leads. EDIT: Ah not sure about the wall or Animals.. I don't like much of that era, but DSOTM and Meddle I believe he used the SI FF.
Members schecterc1lh
if i do get a byoc, which is what i was hoping would be what i got, because it is cheap, and will be fun to make, should i go triangle or rams head. also what is that pickle mod thing? Members comfortablynumb
If you can find one, the Pink Flesh would be perfect for those tones. The Top Fuel not so much. It's much more suited to PULSE/Division Bell tones. I'd say go for the BYOC. Excellent pedal.

Members H.R. Shove and Stuff
what does BYOC stand for? = Build your own clone. What about the GGG one.. has triangle, rams head and other mods, and its only $65. I think the BYOC one is near $100?
Members schecterc1lh
i have heard the ggg has worse instructions, and this will all be new to me, so i need a little clearity on that end lol, but would they be the same parts? Members Jules-RM
I think Ram's Head version is the one you are looking for, at least that's what he used on Wall. I'm not a Big Muff buff though. I just ordered a Top Fuel. I hope the 2 months pass fast.

A link to a page will all the verison mods http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=108&Itemid=26 This is your instructions - for the PCB atleast, there is another one for wiring. http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_bmp_ram_lo.pdf each part will match up on the parts list that is on the first link. While it doesnt go step-by-step, its pretty self explanitory. By new to you, do you mean new to soldering? If that is the case, go with BYOC and get the free "confidence booster", that way you will know if you can pull it off or not. That also will come with step by step instructions, buy I doubt their Big Muff will... they will probably give you something similar to GGG. Parts wise, I'm not totally sure. I think each is a take on the original, or as close as a clone as they could get. If BYOC has a parts list, compare it to the Rams head or Triangle muff that you want to build. Members Josh S
Yeah, I got the BYOC for this sort of thing because I heard it was great.Of course, my goddamned wiring skills are {censored}, so it doesn't work. But it was worth a try I'm still holding out for the Pink Flesh.
Members tubetonez
From what I've read, Gilmour uses his fuzzes in front of B.K. Butler tube drivers. He runs his amps fairly clean.

He runs his amps fairly clean.Well there ya go.. you can get the BYOC and get the free booster.. run the fuzz into the booster and its a poor mans Gilmour set up.. kind of. Anyway, unless you are trying to nail a Pink Floyd song, getting close to the tone is sometimes better then getting it right on.. shows a little more individuality, but whatever. I believe the confidence booster doesnt come with an enclosure, maybe no switch either? Not sure. If you need help finding any of that stuff, check outwww.smallbearelec.comwww.pedalpartsplus.comare the two I primarily use. I'm not too sure how new you are to this.. so you may know all that stuff. Members schecterc1lh
well, by new i meant i have never done this before, i have solder pickups in guitars, and rewired guitars, but never made a pedal, so i kinda want to have decent instrucitons. Members Jules-RM
^2 months for a pedal i don't know about that Yeah, it is a long wait. I'm using a Keeley Fuzz Head right now, and it works ok for leads, but isn't close enough to what I want. But it'll work for another 2 months. Members starsailor803
I just ordered a Top Fuel. I hope the 2 months pass fast. It's the longest two months of your life. If you're like me you'll pass the time by reading all the threads/reviews about the pedal you ordered which just makes you want it even worse. Do yourself a favor and try to forget you ordered it.I can't imagine getting on the waiting list for a King of Tone.
Members SonicVI
I think Ram's Head version is the one you are looking for, at least that's what he used on Wall. I'm not a Big Muff buff though. Problem is we have NO IDEA what exactly is/was inside Gilmour's "Ram's Head" as far as components go. The ram's head's were the more variabl eof all the Muff's. I have a "Ram's Head" that is actually more like a typical "Triangle" than a typical "Ram's Head", and several years ago I had one that was more similar to a "Tone Bypass" version. If he got his Big Muff in '74 he could have a very different one than if he bought it in '77. He probably even had more than one.

I think the BYOC one is near $100? BYOC is turning into a rip, go to GGG for that particular pedal. I built one and it's fantastic. I've heard for lower volumes you could use a RAT and Gilmourish.com says Muff need a lot of volume. Great site BTW.
