Members Ryan Turner
I've been looking to pickup a simple delay/echo pedal for a while. I've mainly been interested in analog and analog-like delays. A modulation feature would be great, but not a total deal breaker. I've been looking at these pedals: Line 6 Echo ParkIbanez AD-9MXR Carbon Copy Analog DelayEHX Memory Man I'm not looking to spend over $160. I'm not really needing alot of versatility or a bunch of bells and whistles. Delay tones I like alot are Mike McCready's with Mad Season (think 'November Hotel' and 'Lifeless Dead') and David Gilmore. What should I be trying out? Members Ryan Turner
the memory man will be very hard to find in your price range. The regular Memroy Man sells for $180 new. I think I could find one used under $160. Are you thinking of the Deluxe Memory Man? Yeah, that one I can't afford, lol.
Members Belt
Yup... I was figuring you were talking about the deluxe. Try the carbon copy if you don't want frills.

Members Folky_Grunge
I don't know if this will help, but I'm pretty sure Mike McCready used a BOSS DM-3 on that album.
Members Orwell
A good one stop Delay is the Line 6 Echo Park. It retails for $109 new and around $70 - $80 used. Its small, has tap-tempo, a boat load of features and can ape Tape/Delay/Analog. Unlike a lot of other small Delay boxes it has a dedicated Modulation knob and if you turn down the time knob you can Vibrato (I think its on Tape Mode) and Chorus (Analog Mode), and tails. The Carbon Copy is good but there have been some issues with the fact that the Modulation is non-existent and there's a 'ticking' noise when not in use. Members rawk100
I wouldn't trust the Carbon Copy, I've heard some people have had problems with reliability and the modulation. The echo park is probably OK and you'll get the most features (modulation, reverse, tap tempo, etc). The AD9 is pure analog slap-back heaven although no good for long delays and I've never tried a memory man so can't comment. It depends what you want to do, I had a digitech digidelay (shock, horror!!) which I bought for nothing off Fleabay and was very impressed with it for the money. You could get a cheap second hand one to try cause it also has loads of options (tape, modulation, reverse, looper, etc) and just sell it again if you don't like it. Then theres the chinese stuff like Artec and Biyang which are OK for the money I guess.

Yeah, he uses that delay pedal alot. I think it's still on his board to this day. Aren't they kinda hard to find now? I'm think I'm going head to GC today and play around with some different delay pedals (if they have any of the ones I'm looking for and setup to try:freak:). BBE Two-Timer is coming out soon, that could work good if you like the Boss DM sound. It's a direct clone pretty much with a few bells and whistles. Members bob, just bob
An Ibanez DE-7 does an analog-like tone (but has no modulation). The Echo Park isn't bad and would be a good option if you were wanting bells and whistles, but I like the tone of the DE-7 better. I have not tried but am intrigued by the Carbon Copy. Members IRG
I don't have it, but would like one - I would check out the Earthquaker Devices DIsaster Transport. Not analog, but voiced like one, and doesn't have some of the issues analog pedals have. Modulation can be turned on and off with another footswitch, very cool. I think they go for $165 new. I don't think I'd say he uses it a lot, but if you hear delay coming from McCready, it's probably from that pedal. If you can't find one, you can always look on e-bay for a DM-3. I didn't mean he uses it all the time as in he has it on alot. I meant as you said it, if uses delay, it comes from that pedal. But, he did use it quite a bit on Mad Season's 'Above' album.
