Members ChuckNorris1982
People seem to be talking about the Montgomery Appliances clones made a lot recently. Nitefly's said he's not doing any more and there're only 6 in existence, so I've considered building one for myself from the Tonepad PCB. Just wondering if anyone else would want one making too? The more I do the cheaper it'd be.
Members kevinsaari
I'd get another if you could solve the volume drop and clock noise.

Members ChuckNorris1982
I honestly haven't looked into pricing just yet. I tend to get my parts from Banzai because I only make small orders and the delivery is cheap, but it's much cheaper to get parts from the USA if I'm putting in a big order.... delivery is a lot of cash you see, but it's worth it for a big order. How much did Nitefly originally sell his for?
Members kevinsaari
They were $160 shipped.

Members int.parascope
I'd get another if you could solve the volume drop and clock noise. Same here, fix those and i'm sold.
Members bleepedybloops
Dont these things have some kind of power issue like they need a +9v and -9v or something like that? Have you cloners just been running off batteries like the originals or found some way to make it more board friendly?
Members ChuckNorris1982
I haven't even looked into it any firther than viewing the PCB and parts list. I was intrigued at the videos and fancied one myself is all, and with eveyone round here GASing for them at the minute I thought it was worth asking about. Sounds like it might be best to just build mine and see what issues it has and whether or not I can fix them. Then maybe I could build more later on. Members NITEFLY182
There is really no reason for you to offer them at $160. I did it because I needed money for a purchase but based on the amount of wiring and drilling alone they aren't really worth building at that price. If I were to make them again they would probably be about $225-$250.
Members ChuckNorris1982
Yeah I'm thinking each build is about 6 hours worth, so I have to charge a minimum level to make it worth my time. I'm guessing I'd be looking towards about
Members NITEFLY182
I built them in 1790s which is great for a solid build with the PCB mounted on nylon standoffs between the pots and switches. They can be done in a 1590 but I would never touch them in that size for under $300. Its way too much work in a small space to be worth it. Members ChuckNorris1982
what would that come out to in US Dollars? It's pretty much $2 to the pound, so about $230 or there abouts.
Members NITEFLY182
Oh you should also consider adding a basic mosfet boost after the PCB to deal with the volume drop and also possibly use shielded wire for all connections. Moving the whole noise source off the PCB to the edge of the enclosure would probably be a good idea too.
Members ChuckNorris1982
The boost is something I actually thought too, maybe an EA, SHO or an LPB or something and play around with it to make it as transparent and clean as possible. Maybe build it with an internal trimmer for volume rather than external pot too. I think what I'll do is build one for myself, then come and show it here and see who might like one. Members NITEFLY182
Yeah I would go with a SHO for as clean as possible plus it will keep things clean and clear. Trim is a good idea as well.
Members ChuckNorris1982
I've got an SHO circuit built up on veroboard somewhere anyway, so I can try it out with that and see how it works. PPP does some sxy enclosures - I'm quite taken with this one: http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=1703&Category_Code=ENC17P
