Members Brian Krashpad
Hi kids. I don't know if I've ever posted here before, so be nice! Anyhow, I just won (in a contest) a Tube Screamer re-issue, the Ibanez Soundtank version in the black plastic housing, which has had a mod done to it, a "JRC4558 TS chip mod." Not being much of pedal connoisseur I have no idea what that means. It's the black one below (the others went to runners-up): Anyhow, it's free and probably a darn bit better than anything I have laying around, but I was wondering what pedal people generally thought of this pedal and what the mod might do to improve upon the original version. Thanks in advance!

Members kyrreca
JRC4558 is the chip that was used in the original TS808 tube screamers, and is supposed to be the best kind of chip for TS-style circuits. In other words, your TS5 will probably sound better than most TS5s

Will be fun to have a new toy, especially for free!

As far as I know, the TS5 is the cheapest of the lot, but I'm sure it will sound good with the chip upgrade.
Members rossowj
Analongman is actually modding the TS5 into TS808 specs(original TS). its like $45 or something www.analogman.com
Members Small Stone
Glad to see you here, Brian! But careful, if you're entering the world of pedals, you might feel your wallet getting lighter and lighter... About your pedal, I say nice score. Some of those 80s Ibanez are very underrated. So I got a pedal and a $45-value upgrade for free. Yay me!

Don't worry about me goin' all boutiqey or anything. I'm way too cheap for that! The price on this one is hard to beat though, free!
