the 2000's were NOT crap. i have a 2000-something jagmaster in silver sparkle, in the fender scale. its got an amazing neck and after i put a seymour duncan phat cat in the bridge, it sounds like heaven.

thats what yours looks like. dont knock it till you try it.

is the neck really tiny at the 1st fret?

I remember playing one and it was like *wow* I can wrap my thumb around the entire neck there...

the neck is pretty thin, but I love mine, but it isn't a chunky handful like a gibbo.

thin as it the distance across on the 1st fret is signifiantly shorter than even 4 frets down... it was almost like a weird "taper" toward the headstock... how I would play a C chord without having my fingere mute the open strings was beyond me,.... that small?
