So I'm a downloader, not a constant one that gets all his music from downloading but I've gotten my fair share of music from torrents as well as some soft synth stuff.

Any of you downloaders? I just downloaded - Pedro the Lion and Can - Ege Bamyasi.

My philosophy is that I eventually try to buy the albums I have downloaded, though I've cut back on buying cds....

I get all of my Japanese music from torrents b/c I can't get them stateside. (So far, no one sells what I like. Bummer.)

Besides that, mainly just albums that I want to preview.

And yes, it is fun. :D

I use Amazon, Pandora and other sites to find music that I like, then I download them. If an album has more than say three songs I like, I'll usually buy a CD. I think Napster and a lot of sites have actually increased my buying but I'm way more selective. In the old days I'd just buy something I've heard from the radio (one song, where the whole album could bite) or from word of mouth (not always a good idea) then I'd be stuck with a turd. I also used Columbia House or BMG to buy "the basics" in the past...but they suck now. :(

I download all the time!!!

authorized stuff though

it's important to remember that "downloading", including torrenting is merely method for distribution of data with signifigant legit use

piracy? no thanks (used to be in SW dev - seen my own stuff on "treasure chests")

what the best software to download music?

Or is torrents the way to go?

I'd be interested in only downloading whole albums(there goes the OCD)

:whisper:You didn't hear it from me, but... For whole albums, go with torrents. They're complete, and you don't have to hunt them down individually. (IMO, the best torrent client would be utorrent) For individual songs, go with Frostwire.

So... you have an outboard storage device for that, then, right?

i have 4 internal hard drives. 2 500s and 2 750s. and i back up about 3/4 of that onto random assortments of externals i've got over the years. all my music is backed up though. i can lose all the porn and 720p movies because there's always more porn and movies will always be available. but yeah all my music is backed up and all my indie/foreign films.

filesharing is the future.. it can only be stopped by... a dictatorship or some really messed up laws.. so, everyone should enjoy it. sadly right now we're in a {censored}ed up time where people can get sued for copying files. eventually the industries will have to give in.

and i'm not too worried about admitting to filesharing, even though actually i could say all this stuff was copied from my own personal movie and music collection. maybe it was and i'm just {censored}ing with you guys who knows. but yeah, go on to a site like torrentfreak.com and you'll find hundreds of people admitting to downloading and sharing. mpaa and riaa don't have time to sue everyone.. or even 1/1000 of everyone

Guys, HC does not condone illegal downloading. Want to discuss a band you like and downloaded from legally? Sure, that's fine... but we don't allow threads discussing techniques for downloading unauthorized material, cracks, warez and so forth.

Thread closed. :cop:
