Boss PS-5 users.

Alright, I'm thinking about picking one of these up. I already have a PS-3 that I love, but I would love to have something that does intelligent harmonies. (Not for Van Halen soloz though, just for adding some interest to my solo instrumental jams.) I was thinking it'd be awesome to have the PS-5 for shifting/octaves, as well as harmonies, and then the PS-3 for mode 7 stuff, detune, as well as straight delay. That way I wouldn't have to change settings on the PS-3 so often.

So my question to the people who use, or have used a PS-5, how good is the harmonizing? I've checked out a few youtube videos and whatnot, and I realize it's not going to sound super organic and stuff. How well does the harmonizer track if you are playing slow arpeggios? Do the other ringing notes affect it/mess it up? (I realize you probably can't play super fast arpeggios, but I play pretty slow for what I'd like to use this for.)

Thanks dudes!

it tracks pretty well if you play clean enough, i think. (no ringing notes)

i love using my ps-5, but i wouldn't really consider it be a serious harmonizer. more of a toy. a fun toy though... you may want to consider other harmonizers as well. digitech is coming out with an interesting one. the boss hr-2 can do two harmonizing voices (never played it though)

but yeah, i think it tracks pretty well once you get the feel for how the pedal works. sound quality isn't too great though..

it tracks notes alot better then i ps-3 but i mean for the price they are going which is around 110-120 i beleive you could just get another ps-3 if you found a good deal since you know they are goin for like 175 on ebay now:rolleyes:

The whole reason I want a PS-5 is for it's intelligent harmonies. While another PS-3 would be cool for some stuff, it wouldn't really be worth the space. I don't really like having overlap on my board, either.

I think I am going to wait until the Digitech Harmony Man comes out and see if it is worth the money/board space.

I just bought a PS-5 and I'm quite pleased with it. So long as you play in the right key and play in tune (novel concept for some) it will track your notes exceptionaly well. I've even played slide with it and gotten good results.

It also might be worth your while to get a cheap delay pedal to use with a harmoizer. Run the harmonizer in paralel with the delay on one line. If your using something like a DD-3, plug it into the output on the harmonizer that is the harmonized note, then plug a patch cable into the direct out but not to anything else, conecting the regular out put to the amp. Run the direct line of the harmonizer strait to the amp. This "tricks" the delay pedal into holding back the harmonized note for the delay time, allowing you to delay the harmonized note for the time duration you desire.
