Burns is the classic UK mob. Also Arbiter's Italia and First Act lines. Not sure if they're actually made in the UK though, probably Asian like most cheap stuff these days.

Gordon Smith comes to mind. Always seem to get good reviews and praise from players.

Patrick Eggle:

There's a lot of good luthiers around, particularly for acoustics. In Bristol alone, Jonny Kinkead runs Kinkade guitars (http://www.kinkadeguitars.co.uk/) and I get my repairs done by a chap called Tom Waghorn who is also an excellent luthier (http://www.waghornguitars.co.uk/).

I have a Patrick Eggle Vienna Plus that i bought new in 94 - nice guitar. I could've bought a PRS at the time but kinda liked the idea of a home grown guitar ... of course if i had've bought a PRS it would be a lot easier to sell for a decent price as they're much better known. Bugger.

I think the Patrick Eggle electrics have nothing to do with the man himself these days and he's started a different company Patrick James Eggle making acoustics.

All my other guitars are American ... well, except the Gretsch, that one's made in Japan ... but American in spirit.
