Fuzz Face Circuit Pros?!

I know that some of you build Fuzz Face. Can someone explain why????

I bought this Dunlop FF, but the battery kept draining on it. I normally unplug from the "input" and leave the cable on the "output". I know that it's not supposed to drain power as long as the cable of not on "Input" when not in use. I never had this problem with my other Fuzz Faces.

Is there a loose wire? Something's not right..I have to take it off my board.

Anyone? Experts? Builders?

:)

uhh, i build them cause they're an extremely simple, low parts count circuit. don't need a circuit board and the only parts that cost any significant money are germanium transistors and the enclosure. cheaper, more pedal board friendly enclosure and you can change cap values to taste and change or replace resistors with potentiometers to change fuzz texture and make adjustments to suit temperature. if your dunlop has a wiring error a guts pic will make it simple to diagnose. since the out jack is on the right maybe they put the stereo jack as the output instead of the input??

is the input jack a TRS jack? If it is just a regular mono jack, then the battery will always be on. This may be a dumb question, but when you unplug the cord from the input jack, do you entirely remove it as opposed to taking it out halfway?

Otherwise, pictures of the inside may be useful.

When not in use I pull my cable (the FF is first on the chain).

Anyway, hope that these pictures help.

It's just as possible that they are using the output jack to do the battery switching instead of the input jack.

I have one just like that at home and I'll have a look at it when I get in from work.

damn, that things a rats nest of wires! no need for that. the fuzzface is good at picking up radio stations and interference. best to keep them wires short. i'd hate to see what a mess it would be if they included a bias pot, battery eliminator, and bypass led. Mr. Huge should have his Dunlop people look at the gut shots in the monsterpiece appreciation thread. That dude knows how to do lead dress. That hendrix dunlop gut shot looks like it belongs in a thread starting with - "I built my first pedal today!"

Surprisingly, this the first silicon Fuzz Face that I've played, where I don't hear radio frequencies. Actually it's really quiet.

I got mine out and looked at it... definitely switched on the input jack.

HOWEVER, are you aware that the input jack is on the LEFT and not on the right like 95% of the other pedals being made? Make sure you are pulling the right cable when powering down. :)
