Seek Whatever Mod

i picked up a seek trem in trade a few weeks ago. very, very cool pedal. by setting the knobbies just right, you can use the 4/8/6 switch to choose different patterns, from straight trem to weird time stuff.

anyway, while cool it is sorta limited. after seeing tons of threads about 'zvex make a sequenced this or that, how 'bout a sequenced expression pedal' i figured hey, why not mod this so you can have a sequenced whatever... make it have an optional expression control output. so here ya go.

it's simply a 1/8" jack tied into the circuit. huge pain in the ass, i dunno if these are hand built but whoever does it has small friggin hands. what does this mod do? it allows you to use the step sequencer on any pedal with an expression input. the possibilities are endless. i don't have a lot of pedals with Exp ins, but i'll be modding a few now for some sequenced controller fun.

i tried it out on a moog delay, stepping through different delay times. set very mellow but fast, it gave a beautiful vibrato to the repeats. set to an odd pattern and slow, it makes you want to puke. i'll get some clips up tonight.

Pros:

-step sequenced control of any expression input parameter on another pedal. i mean really... how cool is that?

-still can be used as the regular trem, just unplug the cable

-pretty wide expression control. goes from about 800 ohms to well over 1 meg, and obviously you can set the steps to whatever you want so it should work well with anything.

Cons:

-voids the {censored} out of your warranty.

-it's an expensive pedal. you really wanna drill a hole in it?

-you CANNOT use the standard trem and expression control at the same time. one or the other, not both. this can cause some wire routing problems. you can add a switch that will turn off the output and switch this and that... but that's more holes.

anyway, just thought i'd share this. pic:

Hay that's dead kewl! nicely done, it's weird seeing someone mod a zvex pedal, kind of like peeing on a church  am i going bananas or is there a place that will add tap tempo to those "seek" bitches?

so whats it do? im lost.

and yes, bring on the clipz!
:thu:

basically, if you have a pedal with an expression input, it can control that input in preset steps like the regular seek series. so, if you have say, a UniVibe with an expression input for speed, you can sequence 4, 6, or 8 steps of different speeds. if you have a pitch shift pedal that goes up/down with an expression pedal, you can actually create a crude 8 step sequenced synth. etc, etc...

ok this is funny. because the other night i was thought for a minute 'someone should make a step sequence expression accesory'. but not really knowing much about sequencers I didnt give it any other thought. and onw you can jsut mod a seek trem to do it? DOPE

clips stat plz

here's a clip of a delay pedal with the seek trem modulating the delay time. dry signal first, then delay, then delay with seek time at :35.

the result is a sort of pitch bend on the delayed notes, from a memory man type vibrato to full on weirdness:

i'll try to get some more up this weekend, seek phaser, seek fuzz, and maybe microsynth.

There's actually a guy who builds stuff like this. Borrowed from synth's world He has the vision of a modular fx system with flexible modulation sources and destinations. Look here for the electronic battle seq. It's the same thing as You're talking about. There are also some youtube links

http://audigoa.blogspot.com/search/label/Battle%20Weapon%20Series

He has built the electronic battle env for me, and it's cool. But I don't know if he's actually in business. There is no much activity on his web site. It took him a long time to build my pedal and he often did not reply to my mails made me think the deal was going bad.

I almost went for the sequence generator instead of the envelope generator as I love those sequence modulated fx. But I realized the envelope generator is even for that kind way better and more flexible. F.E. I can feed it from a drum machine and then let it modulate a phaser or whatever with exp input. The drum machine lets me generate longer patterns, save them and be perfectly in sync via midi or its tap input.

I'm working on something similar with the gyroscope, instead of controlling the filters it controls the lfo that controls the filter, making it sounding pretty rad. Also controlling the android was pure fun

Seek Expression controlling the feedback of a Fuzz factory:

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6530505

it gets a little monotonous in the middle, but make sure to stick around for the end.

in this clip, the fuzz factory is placed in a feedback loop. the loop level is controlled by the seek trem expression out.

the only knobs i touch in the entire clip are the 4/8/6 switch, trem speed, and guitar volume. i never touch the FF or seek knobs.

insanity.
