Members SurveyofSociety
hi, do all boss compact pedals have true bypass ? how many people feel theres a difference between true bypass and not ? surely it can't be that bad if theres loads of pros using boss pedals ? Members kevinsaari
No, none of their pedals are true bypass. Yes, there is a difference. Yes and no. Some of the talk/hype about true bypass is from people going along with what everyone else says on forums. Having 25 buffers in your chain is obviously going to deteriorate your tone, but having a modest amount is fine.

Members SurveyofSociety
I have 3 buffers, but none of them are in the dirt stage. is there a difference between say using a boss OS2, fuzz or comp than using their Chorus/Delay/EQ ? cheers for the replies again guys, is there any other threads about this ? any links? Members kevinsaari
oh right. so 2 or 3 pedals without true bypass is ok but a full board of pedals will suck yr tone a bit yeah? cheers is there a difference between say using a boss OS2, fuzz or comp than using their Chorus/Delay/EQ ? cheers for the replies again guys, is there any other threads about this ? any links? Well, different buffers affect your tone in different ways. There are a lot of people on this forum that run 20+ effects with most of them being buffered. It all depends on what you want from your rig. I've never not ran a pedal I liked because it was buffered. I prefer having true bypass effects on my board when possible, but I personally have 4 buffered pedals on my board and have absolutely no problem with it. As for the second question... Usually analog buffered pedals affect your tone less than digital buffered pedals, because of analog/digital/analog converters. You can read more about that here: http://www.skreddypedals.com/digital_sucks/index.htm I'm sure there are hundreds of other threads about this, just try using the search function. Members SurveyofSociety
cheersatm my effects chain is :Boss CS2 > Boss FZ3> Ibanez TS9 > Boss OS 2 > Korg Dt10i dont have anything in the effects loop just yet. but i have a chorus ensemble and i'm getting an EQ and Delay pedal soon. So are my pedals digital or analogue i'm no engineer i just like playing! I do have a Dunlop Cry Baby wah, i think its a 95 ? but i notice a severe difference in tone when i have that plugged in so i usually play without it! i was looking at the dunlop 535 Q i think it said that thats true bypass ? Members kyrreca
The Dunlop GCB-95 is notorious for bad bypass. It's really easy to mod for true bypass (and for better sound, too). You don't have to be an engineer to do it; I'm surely not, and this was my first pedal mod. As for the other pedals, they look OK in my opinion. You might notice a slight loss of high end playing through five buffered pedals, but on the other hand you might not. As long as it doesn't bother you, there shouldn't be a problem anyway. I'll have a look into the mod for the Dunlop wah. I like it but when not using it it really does bother me at how much it alters my tone and in a bad way too!!! Members MuffFuzz
I have 7 TB pedals and one Buffer which is a Digi Delay at the end of the chain. No Tone suck, and I am happier than a pig in {censored}. It's all about balance.

Well, there are definitely valid reasons for wanting some pedals to be true bypass, but some people get too hung up on it. If you want to mod your wah, here's a great guide made by forumite andreas. TB mod, plus some other mods that make the pedal sound better.
Members melx
.....and remember (this may sound stupid, but anyway) the type of bypass only makes a difference when the pedal is bypassed, if you run an EQ and overdrive on all the time then it really doesn't matter what kind of bypass it has. EQ will be for solos booster. tube screamer is usually always on as i like how it overdrives my Marshall AVT100 (yes some say it's a crappy amp meh:poke:)

The buffers in Boss pedals are good enough anyway....if you are losing a bit of top end just add a bit with an eq or just turn the treble up on the amp!! it ain't rocket science, it's rock and roll.....big difference. stop worrying/start playing. I've never used a noise supressor of any kind so I can't really help you there, but as a general rule I would think if it isn't set too high then it should be fine, the more noise you are trying to get rid of, the higher settings on the NS and the more problems you create....if it isn't too bad I wouldn't even bother using one...try turning the compression down a little on the compressor and see how that is. Members NetStar
Why not use the TS-9, which is TB to boost with, as it is midrangy, and an SD-1 to keep on all teh time for your over drive?
