Boss BF-2 Flanger

A friend of mine is selling his Boss BF-2 Flanger pedal and I'm thinking about buying it from him. Is it any good? How does this flanger stack up against the other flangers that are out there? Should I buy this pedal?

Any info on this pedal would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Wow. That's a bold statement. I'd love to see pics of your board.

Well, I don't have any current pics but my signal path is in my sig.

I bought a BF2 in 1996 or so and struggled with it for 10 long agonizing years. I finally decided to give up on Flange forever because I hated the damn thing so much. Then I heard that John McGeoch used a MXR. I tried the reissue and was instantly in love.

No tin foil chewing metalic aural vomit. The MXR is just pure warm, gooey flange.

Really, don't waste your time.

meh this overwhelming negativity.

boss flange is more digital - hence "metallic" but that word is thrown around alot around here.

i have a bf-3 and am really happy with the range of sounds. does it do mxr flange? no. is mxr the cock of the walk as far as flange? Not as far as im concerned...

I have a bf-3 I got for 80 bucks and its been good to me. Sure you can get some crappy sounds, but with a little bit of tinkering around you can get some very good flanging sounds. Its not a pedal that you can just wip out and crank up the dials and get good sound.

My take on it is that it is not the air-iest of flangers but there are plenty of interesting sounds in it. It does have quite a 'metallic' sound on some settings, although you can get some cool weird sounds that way as well as a pretty convincing chorus out of it. I would say its worth getting and having a play about with...

I enjoyed my BF-2 flanger, but it was one of the first things to leave my board. There are much better pedals out there imo. For 50 though, you might as well give it a go and see if it's up your street.
