I got some kind of postal notice today ... the wife and I are getting $1023 stimulus check. And it might be coming on Wednesday. :freak:

I thought it was supposed to be $1200 .... but w/e .... supposedly free money. :idk:

:whisper:"You think I should tell them about my AWESOME new gear that's on the way?"

:whisper:"I dunno if they can handle it."

exactly... you haven't seen anything to dispute it either have you?

the govt. loves people like you

Oh, I'm not saying I don't believe it ... I've taken Econ classes. I know there's no such thing as "free money." I just haven't seen anything either way. I guess I was asking for some kind of evidence.

All hail Milton Friedman.

Got all $1,200. Robo's points make sense. No such thing as a free lunch - unless you're a millionaire - in this country. I'll take what I can get, but I'm sure the other shoe will drop one way or another.

In all these threads, people have failed to mention that all the money teh gubbament holds onto and then gives back to you is sans interest. People get all excited about their tax returns, but it's their money that the government has been borrowing w/out paying any interest on it.

Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?

A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment.

Q. If my stimulus payment is not going to affect my 2008 tax refund or increase the tax I owe next year, why is it I need to retain the letter that lists how much I received?

A. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount on your 2007 return but you do on your 2008 return, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received. [New 4/11/08]

Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

exactly, if I forward you $1000 of money you were gunna get next year anyway, it hasn't reduced or increased the total amount any has it? No, you get the same amount, but you're spending it now instead of later.

no, no, we are getting the money for this, the same place we are getting it for the war in iraq. we don't have to worry about it, future generations can figure it out.

I think I knew that. I just don't know the cutoff dates on each #.

Correct me if I'm wrong... But it's by the last 2 digits of your social?

it is actually a combination of different numbers in your social...it is probably best if you just post your whole number and we can help you figure it out ;)

I am 79, and no deposit yet...

If you direct deposited your refund... Then it should be this Friday. The IRS's website has all the info for the scheduling.
