Members bojo Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 i've always turned my back on those because of the unreliability and the horror stories i've heard back when they first released it. now for a project i have, it could be what i'm looking for, but still, i wonder if they're crapping out as much as they used to?
Members mr benn Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 i'd be surprised if they were that unreliable, given that nearly every second board in the "pedalboard of the stars" thread has one!good enough for touring pro's,then i'd have no worries with it

Members Loobster Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 Mine died after 6 months of gigs. I left it behind and moved onto better things.
Members Jules-RM Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 If you baby them, they will last a while. But there are other just as good alternatives now, before they were the only game in town.
Members Turd Furgison Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 i buying "dead" ones and then flipping them after re-seating the chip.
Members rinkrat6821 Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 i buying "dead" ones and then flipping them after re-seating the chip. the chip that says cmos? you just pull it out and place it back in? Thats it and walla??
Members Destrega Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 I got mine in '02, have never once had a problem. Its also my most used pedal.
Members Loobster Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 i buying "dead" ones and then flipping them after re-seating the chip. Didn't work for me!
Members Turd Furgison Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 the chip that says cmos? you just pull it out and place it back in? Thats it and walla??sometimes you don't even have to take it out just wiggle it a bit and like magic it is back
Members Turd Furgison Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 Didn't work for me!that is because you probably tried to do it using the metric system, that won't work you need to use standard measures
Members Crxsh Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 I've had 2 of them .... one about 4 years ago and another late last year. Never had a problem with either one.
Members sonaboy Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 oh well.i've had friends who killed theirs - but let's just say i never fully blamed Line 6 for it. if anything, this pedal demands steady, clean power. it does NOT like to be spiked or browned out. i use a PP2 for power.i've owned 2 - the first one worked perfectly until i sold it after 4 years of use.the second one still works perfectly after 4 years of use. i doubt i'd ever get rid of it as long as i play in the band i do now.
Members thebloodbrother Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 EHX Stereo Memory Man With Hazarai. ew.
Members rinkrat6821 Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 ew. I agree. After playing one, I was very disappointed. Its so brittle and and dull. The dl4 is much warmer and lush, along with the DMM at the very top of warmth.
Members Loobster Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 I thought the SMM/H sounded about a million times better than the DL-4. They sounds on the DL-4 really aren't anything special to me - jack of all trades, master of none.
Members dparr Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 Mine died after 6 months of gigs. I left it behind and moved onto better things. Mine lasted about that long and never left the house. I fixed it by removing and replacing the chip but still..............
Members dparr Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 EHX Stereo Memory Man With Hazarai.Great pedal.

He said he's almost always got one in the mail to line 6 repair.

They sounds on the DL-4 really aren't anything special to me - jack of all trades, master of none. they're both "master of none." the DL4 was never meant to be the BEST of anything. it was meant to be versatile, but much more intuitive than a rack delay. when i bought my first back in 1999, it was amazing at how easy it was to get exactly what you were hoping for. it simply killed every other pedal delay out there for ease of use and variety of sounds. the fact that it's now 9 years later and this thing is still being used by everyone and their brother should tell you something.
Members MathiasWilliam Posted May 13, 2008 Members Posted May 13, 2008 the only problem i have had with my dl4 are those {censored}en switches.
Members bojo Posted May 13, 2008 Author Members Posted May 13, 2008 yeah so maybe i should overcome my fear of it crapping out ...or just save for a freakin eventide
