Members animal69
what is the cheapest tape echo out there that won't break down *too* often? I want to experiment with creating a tap tempo pedal that can control the motor speed of a tape delay. i would love to be able to do this experiment on a brand new fulltone tape echo but i cant afford $1000. Members GuitarSlim101
If you're patient, Hiwatt Tape Echoes show up on eBay for $200 every once in a while. They have an expression pedal input for tape speed, which may either help or hinder what you're trying to do. They're nice, though. I got mine used and played it for about 2 years straight without having to change the tape. Something is wrong with it now, but nobody seems to know what. Members Destructobot
Try to find one of the hiwatt ones. Cheap relative to other brands, and supposedly pretty nice. My advice though, would be to just stick with pedal delays. A tape echo is cool, but it's not THAT much better/different from a nice analog or even digital delay. I've had DMM's, Maxons, Ibanez AD-80, RE-201, and a few others. The ones I've kept and have on my board? Digitech pds 20/20 and a byoc. Total price paid: $
