any difference? thickness?

I am looking for replacement scratchplate for tele....

which one to get? I am thinking of 1 ply mainly because I thought it would be thinner, but then I saw a pic and it looks about the same thickness..

anyone care to shine a light here?

:thu:

i think they're the same thickness,

the 3 ply ones have a slanted side, the one ply ones can eventually warp and develop a bubble (for instance when refitting the scratchplate)

the 3 ply ones are a bit stiffer and don't warp

but it's not really an issue, more a matter of personal style

I prefer the single ply on my Tele copy

my 1-ply has a slanted edge, etc. just like the 3-ply. i don't think it'll warp at all like some [possibly cheaper?] ones do.

just see which one looks better!

EDIT: oh, wait. that's on a strat. still... my last point stands.

Seriously though, I prefer 3 ply, but it depends on the finish of the guitar. You can't really put a 3 ply white guard on a white tele for example. Just wouldn't look right.

+ 1, but except maybe the '62 Tele with a binding

and look at my avatar, those 3ply white guard on a Daphne Blue Strat with a rosewood neck are just sex IMO
