First raw recordings of my band (with Edirol R-09)

Would appreciate it if anyone would bother to listen :p

This is our own material, I'm playing lead-guitar, and I write/play the lead parts :)

You've got to know about the background of the clips tho:

we own NO recording gear ourselves, except for my Edirol mini-recorder. These clips were recorded one-take with that recorder, during today's band-rehearsal. We're students, and currently we can't afford to go in any kind of studio :p

But my local bank has this thing going on where they sponsor young talented people from my hometown, and they're deciding on a list of people to give money to in June. I've asked for money to go in a studio, and hopefully when they hear my playing in these clips, they'll sponsor me with some money to go towards making BETTER recordings in a studio-environment

So have that in mind when you listen, this isn't the finished article, it's meant to give an impression of who we are and what we do with our music ;)

And: our singer is sick with a flu right at the mo', so he couldn't perform as well as he wants to. That will be better in later clips :)

Any comments appreciated! (I know that the clips isn't perfect and there's some {censored}ups) :cop:

I really dug all of those especially Moments  I think you guys have great potential w/ some polishing up, very melodic and catchy- nice playing too Jon :thu: For some reason your general sound reminded me a little bit of these guys, but you definitely seem to have your own thing going on...

Thanks a lot for listening, and the comments! :thu::thu:

I know it's pretty rough, but I feel that the material is good.. and like ya said, with some polishing it'll be exciting to see the end-result. :)

What's that band btw? I've never heard that band before :cop::)

Very cool thanks. I wanted to hear the difference between the Edirol and my drummer's Sony mini-disc recorder. So far, not a huge difference in sound.

Is it easy to transfer the recording to your computer?

Well, it's easy if you've got a card-reader on your computer. I just take the SD-card out of the recorder and put it into the computer's card reader. That's a breeze, quick transferring.
I generally use this method with my stuff, not the USB-cable method.. ;)

the vocals were kinda muffled. but i see great potential to your band. kind of a mix of blues and a bar band. nice guitar playing on moments.

Thanks! and thanks for listening! :thu:
Yeah, agreed on the vocals. The recordings are rough. But they work right now for having something we can pass around to let people hear our sound, and then we'll swap the clips for better recordings, hopefully very soon. :)

I like it. keep on rockin

:thu:

To try to keep this on-topic, as it is the Effects-forum, here's the effects used:

flange: Arion SFL-1

overdrive in rhythm and solos: Franklin-mod SD-1

cleanboost for solos: MXR/CAE boost/linedriver.

I had borrowed the MXR/CAE for the occasion, and I must say that it seems like a very nice pedal. :)

oooh i liked it very much, but just like inuitdream said, the vocals do sound a bit muffled, although the recording came up really good, you can clearly hear what everyone is doing. which is the perfect way for people to know the songs, or send them to bar owners and stuff if you are planning on getting some gigs.

btw i added you on myspace :) well i use my band's profile, i recently deleted my own :s (minefield from el paso) i hope thats cool since you have like 2 friends, maybe you are very selective about your friends :o

Thanks!!! :thu:
Yup, now we've got something to burn on a cd and give to bar-owners. :)
we might go back and try make the recordings a bit better first tho.

Part of the problem with the vox might be our rehearsal-room.. We rent this cheap locale, it's a service aimed at kids/youth/students to provide cheap bandrehearsal-rooms. The vocal rig is pretty simple ;) But if we go back we can probably tweak it to better results too..

Thanks for the add! I actually just got our myspace up and running 5 hours ago, so we're not so stacked in the friends-department yet :D

your singer is ripping off 'hello kitty kat' by smashing pumpkins on the Helium Filled Heads verses.
:p

the recording is pretty clear though for a live room. not bad at all.

Haha, I wouldn't have realized that if noone told me :p
But you're very probably right, he's a huge SP fan :p

I really like your stuff. Nicely done with the Edirol, it sounds really good. I hope you guys get the money to go into the studio. I find my skills have improved immensely the few times I have been in the studio. It forces you to focus on things you wouldn't normally think of doing. It really shows you your weaknesses and forces you to tighten up your playing. It is a growing experience for every band.

The music itself is really cool. I would definitely buy a CD if you guys made one. Very cool music, you guys have a nice groove.

Yeah, I'm really excited about doing studio-work, when I do it for the first time it's bound to be interesting.:)
it'll probably be a bit painful to hear myself first, but like you say.. it'll help me to pinpoint what needs improving :thu:
